Unlocking backgrounds/gamer pics in Infinite + XSX

Love or hate halo 5, I think we can all agree that the wallpapers you get when unlocking achievements are the coolest thing XBone did the entire generation in terms of customization in the dashboard. The concept art being unlockables as opposed to just game screenshots was such a solid choice, and I hope they do the same type of thing in Infinite. Nothing bugs me more in games when you unlock an achievement and its a lazily put together in-game screenshot for a background – or even worse – just a bland, near identical icon for every achievement you unlock. I am so surprised more companies didn’t put more effort in making cool wallpapers for achievements. The only other games that I thought put in some effort in this regard were Sea of Thieves and Battlefront 2. Go look at them when you get a chance!

Aside from backgrounds, I would LOVE to see a return to unlock-able gamer pics like in the old XB360 days. For example, I loved doing the Black Ops Zombies easter eggs because it gave you that reward and token for doing that hard task. I know you can just upload whatever nowadays as your gamer pic, but it would be cool to see that return in some form that communicates to others: “I earned this”. It would also give extra incentive for people to go back to Infinite for achievement hunting and just add to that replay-ability factor.

I just really hate how these two things have fallen to the wayside, because for me they really add to the experience of playing on Xbox. Anyone feel the same way?

You can change your Gamerpicture & dashboard background to anything you desire now with the Xbox companion app & a USB, there isn’t much point in investing time in bringing back unlockable gamerpictures when you could simply change it to that specific image without the unlock requirements.

I wish they’d remove the watermarks from the achievement images, though.

I would like to see this make a comeback as well. I understand that you’re able to upload whatever you want now days, but sometimes devs have concept art, etc that I wouldn’t have seen otherwise.

Yeah, the ability to upload whatever you want kind of kills the gamer pic thing. What I’m saying though would be cool (assuming they did bring it back) if they put something like an animated feature to unlockable gamer pics, like a border, effect, etc.). Something exclusive and unique that differentiate from say an uploaded one. That way there could be both the option to upload, but also an option to unlock gamer pics that are in some way cooler than a regular one. If that makes any sense

I’d be down for that, but only if the animated gamerpics were exclusive to achievements to not devalue them.
