What do you guys prefer; unlocking armour just by playing (credits in Reach) or doing special tasks (Halo 3 style). Personally I prefer Halo 3 style were armour didn’t just mean playing a lot. In halo 4 I would like it if you had to do special tasks to unlock armour. For example: To unlock sniper shoulders you have to kill 500 enemies with sniper rifle headshots.
I’d like a combination of both. Reach’s system, with some helmets unlockable by achievements and things.
I like Halo 3’s but it limits the amount of customization unless you get a full set of armor per achievement. And, if they do halo 3’s system, then do not put ridiculous achievements such as 2 for 1 (shivers).
> I’d like a combination of both. Reach’s system, with some helmets unlockable by achievements and things.
this.
I liked unlocking things like in h3, but buying them in reach makes sense too; if only the armory was valued at 20m cR, I have 12m cR and 2m cR are lying around that I cant use.

both, you could get some basic armour from just ranking up and give better looking armour by gaining achievements
As I said in this thread; achievements should earn a sum of credits that varies depending on the level of difficulty. Instead of simply having Achievements to unlock armor like in Halo 3, Achievements should unlock an amount of credits equal to a certain piece of armor. This way you still get a certain armor reward for the Achievement but not one that makes it impossible to get that armor for players who may not have access to online play or may not enjoy campaign. The credits system should not have traditional ranks but rather something we will refer to as “Credit Milestones”. All credits will go towards moving through these milestones. If you rank up in Matchmaking, you should reach the next Credit Milestone. All game modes, whether it’s Campaign, Firefight, Forge or anything else, should contribute to your credits. Any restrictions to how many credits can be earned per game or day must be the same whether you are playing online or offline. This way we can have a system that is fair to everyone and will allow all players to unlock all armor permutations.
it would be awesome if the armor was unlocked through achievements and through commendations. i hope 343 put more commendations in halo 4.

How about if the armour abilities were directly linked to what armour you were wearing?

This

This
and that

I think armor unlocks should be all of these, but perhaps mostly on cR. And if you assume that the pattern of AMMOUNT of armor continues, then h4 should have about twice what reach has, keep that in mind.
65% on cR, this allows for a lot of base customization, even for the less skilled players, you can just keep buying things and plodding along.
10% achivs, hard stuff, so that when you get that helmet with the skull on it or the cool thingy, people are like, oh badass you acctualy DID that?!
20% Commidations, just like cR in that most people can obtain them, but some of the higher level (onyx in Flawless cowboy for exp) will be more akin to the achiv unlocks, wow you DID that?!
5% waypoint/legacy: Played every halo on legendary? you get this thing, Got every data pad or terminal or audio tape in every game? you get this do dad. This is the smallest because it is the only one that depends on other games, but it’s nice to get that one or two things for having been a diehard halo fan, but 1 or 2 thing sout of 100 shouldnt upset any (well most) who can’t get it, or are unwilling to go back and get it.
So the cR system would stay in effect, with a milestone like rank (great idea) and we would have an acctualy mutiplayer rank 1-50 or whatever you want, I am not here to fix that problem, but a seperate ranking system ASIDE from the cR system.

I prefer the system Reach uses for unlocking armor, although it takes quite long to get the amount of credits required for the specific piece you would like to purchase.

Agreeing with this guy!
Halo 3 style as the good players where set apart (appearance wise) from the no0bs.
> I’d like a combination of both. Reach’s system, with some helmets unlockable by achievements and things.
I don’t mind either way, I just hope it’ll be something that won’t encourage negative behavior in matchmaking. Or something luck based.
Whatever allows there to be 1000x times the amount of armor and armor customization in Halo 4.
keep jfo helmet 343 in my opinion its better than pilot haunted im sure others want all reach armors to stay and add halo 3 armors too.
