Unique Weapon Suggestion Thread

This is somewhere I though we could post ideas for unique weapons to help 343 innovate. Please note this is not somewhere to post ideas about a new version of a specific type of gun for a different faction, such as a Brute sniper rifle or a Promethean turret. This is a place to put forward ideas that are truly unique, such as the Needler. That was a pretty alien concept back in 2001, and that’s the feeling I’m trying to evoke here. New, game-changing, unique weapons.

Let me give you an idea to start off.

Grapple Gun: Promethean or Human, with matching hardlight/metal wire and harpoon.
This would be a mobility weapon, doing little/no damage when fired at players, and only being useful to gain a vantage point or outmaneuver the enemy team. It could run on batteries or compressed gas cartridges to prevent over-use, and would be used as such:

A player picks it up, and fires it at a surface. The grapple shoots out and attaches to the surface, pulling the player to that surface, a la hookshot from the Legend of Zelda. There, if the surface was horizontal (floor), the hook would take a short time to detach, and the player could move around normally. If the surface was vertical (wall), then the harpoon would stick, allowing the player to either drop down, slowly lower themselves or clip it to their belt and switch to their other weapon. This would mean they were temporarily attached to a wall, making the player like a turret. Combined with long-range weapons, this could be deadly. The downside is that they become exposed and visible, and it takes a while to switch back and release from the wall.

If H5:G has dual-wielding, then it gets even more interesting. If the player has a grapple gun in one hand and, say, a magnum in the other, they could move around very quickly with the cost of reduced firepower. The same could be said for dual-wielding two grapple guns- no firepower, excellent maneuverability. Perfect for scouting runs, collecting the flag/ball/bomb, or for custom games.

I hope to hear your opinions soon, as well as your other ideas.

I swear this idea has been posted before…

Can’t remember how well it was received, though.

Sorry if it has, I’m relatively new to the forum, as you can see.

No need to apologise =]

I ‘think’ it was changed to a piece of equipment rather than a handheld weapon in the last thread if memory serves correctly.

Would be good in BTB games.

Grapple gun is an awesome idea. I have posted the notion of giving Warthogs a grapple/tow for scaling rough terrain, but I like giving it to infantry. Could have been a useful thing in Halo 4’s maps, where obstacles tended to be extra large and tall, but with a low ceiling to prevent use by infantry.

One ideas from me:

A Promethean Hardlight Scythe: their rough equivalent of the Sword and Hammer. It would have extra long range but be slow to wield.

One word, tornado gun.

Intriguing… How would it function? I can’t see half-ton Spartans getting tossed around easily, but anything’s possible.

A forerunner terraforming device in the form of a handheld rechargeable weapon. Only one of these will be on the map. The only weapon that can effect the environment, move stones or trees to block off passages and vehicle routs, raise the earth in front of you and make a small hill for cover, make a trench. There could be a mountain on the side of each teams base, and if blue team gets to the weapon first, they can cause an avalanche on Red teams base or vice versa.

Combining map function with weaponry… Very nice. Reminds me of the target designator for some reason. Perhaps it would make more sense to make it like the Didact’s force-manipulation-thingy, though, in keeping with the themes. Then again, that might turn out a little too much like the gravity gun…

yea when I was writing that I was also thinking about the target designator, which go me thinking about Halo wars for some reason. Then I thought, hey why not have that in the form of the commander ability’s in halo wars.

Example, enemy has a scarab or war sphinx, point the laser on the target, when you get a lock chose what ability you want to use.

-Mac Blast form orbit (Damages target severely) (Destroys smaller targets.) (Stuns operating crew)

-Cryo bomb from orbit (Freezes vehicle for a set amount of time allowing your team to climb on board) (Flying vehicles shut down much like an EMP and crash of the ground)

As for cutters ODST’s, I think it would be cool if you chose where you wanted to spawn when you die, and when you spawn, you do so form orbit like an ODST in a drop pod. When the drop pod hits the ground, any enemy’s within 5 meters experience as I would call, a small flash bang.

Those would work very well in a massive battle, such as some people have been suggesting, especially against scarabs or mammoths. I think they’d work better as part of an objective game, though, like having to disable shields, jammers and all that whilst being harassed by the scarab, then the designator being dropped, then swarming and destroying the scarab. A great new version of Invasion.

I would like to see either a grenade that pulls or slows players in its radius, or a slow-firing weapon that can pin players in pace for a short duration (just a second or two). The grenade version might be to replace the pulse grenade. picture that instead of taking out your shield sand then killing you, instead it pulled everything in its radius towards its center at about the speed a spartan can walk. would be best combined with other grenade types or weapons that are normally hard to hit with. it wouldn’t stop them from shooting back, so if they have a better gun or you were already getting hit there is a good chance that they can still oil you, meaning it won’t be too overpowered.

Not sure how this would effect vehicles. probably only slow them down a bit for the same duration. Sprint if it returns might also be able to break out, but you would be moving very slow and cant shoot back.

This sounds very similar to the Hammer of Dawn in Gears of War.

Gravity gun- Shoots gravity waves that move at the speed of rockets, can be avoided at range. The crosshair would be flat and the shots would also be flat and would be white/fogish and would have a curve. Close up the damage would be like the gravity hammer but if fired very close it can damage the user. At range it does less damage based on distance so if you are far it only hurts a bit.The weapon would also throw enemies back depending on distance. When reaching a certain distance the shots fade. The weapon is brute themed.

Gravity Bow

-charge then fire single shot
-fast projectile speed
-not headshot capable
-no scope
-battery
-1 bodyshot kill
-zero bloom, zero spread, zero recoil
-charge up period of approximately 0.50 seconds
-no cooldown period after firing
-must be fully charged before firing
-forced fire after a moment of being fully charged
-movable objects, like crates, players, or vehicles, are pushed back upon impact
-a fully shielded player can be killed with one direct impact shot
-no splash damage
