Uninspiring & Disappointing New Characters...

Well, most of the new UNSC chararacters introduced were just, well, just there to be there.

Let’s start with the new Spartans…

Lasky looks like a generic Spartan (Cause he is)

Palmer is just so annoying and is bias a LOT

The future gen of Spartans don’t look as promising as Chief since they die easily in skirmishes and the campaign…

The captain looked cool and calm in the E3 demo, but once you meet him in the game itself, he’s just, well, a loud captain.

And what was the commander’s name again??? (Exactly)

Other than the obviously returning characters, Chief & Cortana, and the Didact (Who was actually a formidable enemy) the others just don’t seem to be inspiring no matter how many time I see them in Spartan Ops, cutscenes, and the campaign. They usually just give out orders and say the generic “Mission Complete” statement at the end.

On the other side, Johnson and Arby were memorable characters because they would say a couple of funny lines from time to time along with actually HELPING you during missions VS just giving out orders…

In the end, they should’ve gotten more in depth with the possible new characters and not just add them for the sake of saying that new people will appear in Halo 4. Hopefully, they can add more memorable characters in the future and not waste time on introducing bland characters.

What do y’all think

> Lasky looks like a generic Spartan (Cause he is)

Lasky isn’t a Spartan. And in case you didn’t know his character has a bit of backstory. Watch Forward Unto Dawn.

> Palmer is just so annoying and is bias a LOT

Biased in what regard? Thinking her Spartans are the best? Well they pretty much are. Biased thinking Halsey is a war criminal? She can only make up her mind with the information she has been given and as far as she knows Halsey kidknapped kids and put them through hell.

> The future gen of Spartans don’t look as promising as Chief since they die easily in skirmishes and the campaign…

Gameplay =/ canon. Gameplay mechanics don’t accurately represent the actual canonic reality of a subject.

> The captain looked cool and calm in the E3 demo, but once you meet him in the game itself, he’s just, well, a loud captain.

I’m pretty sure they are two seperate characters.

> And what was the commander’s name again??? (Exactly)

Commander Palmer? Commander Lasky? The Captain before Lasky was called Del Rio if that’s what you’re asking.

Give Spartan Ops a chance to flesh them out. The Chief was the main focus of the campaign so it makes sense that they didn’t spend an abundance of time on secondary characters.

Also, you say “Hopefully, they can add more memorable characters in the future and not waste time on introducing bland characters.”, but that would in fact be doing what you are complaining about, adding characters for the sake of it. Instead of churning out useless characters it would be better if they developed the ones they introduced, which they are doing.

Lasky is the captain of the infinity, not a spartan. I’m starting to warm up to Palmer. Can’t say I’m a huge fan of the Spartan IV’s, but we still haven’t seen much of them yet.

Not of fan of the spartan-IVs. they’re all uber dude bros and really just don’t fit what I think a spartan should be. Mature and professional, they ain’t.

I hope 343 has a good reason for making them so generic.

I agree and disgaree. I can understand them being a bit more generic and “human” than what the IIs and IIIs were, seeing as they are in fact normal people. However, the “dudeness” is a little too much. They are still supposed to be battle hardened veterans and as such should be more professional than they are. I think Thorne, Scottish Ginger Spartan and Palmer are the right mix, but the rest of Majestic are clowns compared to how they should act as soldiers, nevermind Spartans.

To make Chief stand out!!!

It should be both Del Rio as the captain…

Plus, what I mean is that they should’ve introduced new, but memorable, characters and not a butch of people that"ll be forgotten the next day…

Anyway, the return of Arby would be nice

Even without FUD, I think Lasky’s a decent enough character. He’s not exactly special in any way, but he stands out as the “normal guy” in the room in a franchise full of aliens, super soliders, and AI’s.

Del Rio seems to have existed purely as a plot device so infinity didn’t follow the didact to Ianoff. His removal as captain was handeled via hard to hear dialouge while your busy dodging stuff.

Palmer and the other spartans im meh about. Thorne’s atleast not on the halsey hate train.

Well most of us haven’t forgotten who they are. Besides, this is the first game in a new trilogy, great characters don’t just pop up.

I enjoy Lasky as a character. Over the course of the campaign, he grew on me. Palmer, I can live with. I think they should cut a bit back on the one liners, and have her a tad more… expositional? Intel instead of catty remarks. Del Rio was a memorable character, if just for the fact that he threw a tantrum right on the bridge.

With the new spartan ops episode, Thorne is my favourite among them. Calm and collected, though I can see the reasoning behind the ‘gung ho’ atttude of the other Spartan IV’s. I mean, most were Helljumpers, and the rest were noted for their commendations and inducted into the program.

I think it all fits together nicely.

Edit: Incidentally, I wasn’t a huge fan of Johnson in Halo 1-3. The first game he was just a nameless NPC, and the next few games he just spouted the occasional one liner, and shortish-monologue. I thought his death scene was kind of try hard, to be honest. They were so -Yoink!- intent on making you feel emotion, that I thought it was silly.
