What are everyone’s opinions on the uniforms in Halo? Do you have a favorite dress, duty, or combat? Which game or media has the best depiction?
•I really like the uniforms used in Forward Unto Dawn, We Are ODST/The Life, and Nightfall.
•I hate that the UNSC Marines wear the same dress uniform as the UNSC Navy! Sergeant Major Johnson’s rank insignia appears to be the same as a naval lieutenant with two bold stripes at the cuff (Lord Admiral Hood wears 4 equally bold stripes on his cuff) in Halo 2 Anniversary.
• Why is Captain Keyes wearing his full ribbon rack aboard the Pillar of Autumn and retrieving Cortana? Did he just come from the change in command ceremony? His daughter at least changed to a more dressed down uniform when things started hitting the fan.
• Anyone notice that all the officers in Halo 4 & 5 have a gold/brass oak leaf identical to the ones worn by US majors/lieutenant commanders on there shoulder pauldrons above the stripes? That kinda bugs me.

Like you, I have a shopping list of little nitpicks, but I’d have to sit down and sift through it all.
One big gripe I have though started with Halo 4 and the appearance of a lot of white in battle dress uniforms. If these were medics, I could see that, but that doesn’t appear to be the case.
Your list is similar to mine, to the point that I’ve been looking for the time and opportunity to sit down and figure out rank, insignia and uniforms through the Haloverse then compare it to games.
There’s another recent thread on the accuracy of the military in Halo that’s worth a look. I’m on my phone so grabbing the link is a bit of a pain at the moment.
Cheers,
Brad

Yeah I’ll have to check it out again. Yeah the white bugs me as well. It would be one thing if a white helmet designated a military policeman, an explanation would go along way.
I like the Marine armor depicted in Halo: CE ,Halo 2 and Halo 3, and the ODSTs in Halo 2 and Halo 3 the most. It was simple and grounded in my opinion.

I’m really hopeful about the Marine’s armor for Infinite. They look like a balance between the Reach, Halo 3, and Halo 4&5 armors. I loved the ODST armors from H3: ODST. Hands down the best uniform in the Halo Universe was what I call the ODST Dress. Looked futuristic but held true to military traditions. They even hired the uniform guys that consulted on uniforms for Band of Brothers.
Like SquareRigged said the Marines’ banter is spot on in the game. Though they need to complain about the weight of equipment and body armor more. Like my sergeant said ounces equal pounds, pounds equal pains.
It would be interesting to see how a smart AI would fit into the command and control structure of modern militaries.

God, I remember carrying not only my full rucksack, but the Squads prc 77 radio and M-16. I was so top heavy it was stupid, fell over more than once and dropped my weapon right in front of our green LT. He actually made me drop for ten in the middle of the night.
Wait, we are talking Halo aren’t we?
