Unfortunate PR, again

Hello Halo Wars community! With the Awakening the Nightmare(ATN) expansion riling everyone up, both good and bad, I decided I would look at how 343 should have handled the ATN drop.

I watched the reveal on MIXER and got very excited to see the Flood’s return through, always amazing, Blur cinematics. I was very pleased to think that it would have been included with the season pass, but was later pointed out to not be included and was quickly disappointed. I saw how everyone else was reacting and thought about how it could have gone a little better.

I think they should have released the teaser for the SpearBreaker campaign missions included with the season pass first. Then, toward the end of the conference, this expansion should have been teased. Maybe even the ATN tease should have been held back until Gamescom to assure players that the game will still be worked on after the season pass’ content. I assume that everyone would have been excited for the season pass dlc teaser and then move their attention to ATN. Either way, I think there would have been backlash for ATN’s sudden drop, but not as bad as our current situation.

Understandably, it is suspicious that they would go ahead and release something like this out of the blue, because big expansions like this don’t just pop out of development in only 4 months of a game’s life cycle. I think like this, because I grew up on expansions usually coming out 1-2 years after a popular game was released. Now, it feels like SpearBreaker’s reveal will be overshadowed by this fiasco or will play damage control. All in all, this is just how I thought things should have gone, but unfortunately, it happened in many bad ways.

TLDR; ATN was teased too early and SpearBreaker should have been showcased first.

What do you guys think?

I agree wholeheartedly. I’m still hyped for the Flood, but where is the content that I already paid for? We know nothing other than a name.

Yep all wrong, give us what is in season pass before showing us what is not. Also flood not playable is just lazy in my opinion. 21 million is not enough income?

I’m hoping as well that we get much more information on Spearbreaker, but it IS story dlc, so that could be why they’re keeping it under wraps for awhile.

Again, the ATN reveal was just a bad move as it hyped everyone, then hid behind a price. The Flood will have it’s day to shine brightly, eventually.

I never thought of it this way, but I agree! Personally I’m not upset at all with the way everything was handled, but I do think teasing Spearbreaker first would have been better.

Personally, I think it’s extra scummy they are putting the highly anticipated return of the Flood in a dlc expansion, yet excluding it from the season pass. They know how many people want the Flood to return, and they’re taking advantage of the fans by doing this. It’s purely out of greed…

And it’s even worse that they aren’t giving us info about the campaign additions that ARE included in the season pass.

It would definitely have been a better way to approach it, an announcement for Halo Wars 2 on Steam would have been great aswell.

The Forged Alliance expansion came out 9 months after Supreme Commander and that had a 4th faction, new units for the other 3, more maps, new campaign and is considered one of the best RTS games of all time. So ATN releasing 6 months or later is quite possible.

I agree. My guess is that the company was under direction and pressure from Xbox management to announce anything new and flashy at E3.

Which is why they probably should have waited. Would you have been more mad if they teased ATN later? Like during RTX or Gamescom?

There’s still 2 days left for announcements, but don’t get your hopes too high!

Yes, I was super excited for the Seraphim, but I grew up on Rise of Nations and Warcraft III. Their respective expansions came out a year or two after release, so 6 months for me is super fast.

No, I would not. I will admit that.

They should have waited until all the current season pass stuff was out.

But putting “6 months or more” in the description of the season pass, and then announcing something this highly desired is releasing right after 6 months, is still kind of scummy.

The tragic thing is they were probably just really excited about this and its being interpreted so wrong

This is what makes me mad about people. Complain about not having new info, teasers or reveals. Complain when you have them. And when you have teasers from the season pass content and a new expansion then complain about the order they are being revealed.

I’m not saying that’s you, but just think about it. It makes no sense to me at all, people will complain whichever the reveal order is.

It was teased at the same time. It is all there in the announcement.

Again, people will be mad if there’s announcements and people will be mad of there aren’t.

Possible, and I don’t think it’s a bad move.

People would be mad either way.

No one is complaining about the reveals or the order it’s in. In my main post I explain why I think the ATN tease should maybe have been held back. This thread is simply my opinion on how 343 should have handled the tease that caused all the complaints.

This is what I am getting at and why it’s being misinterpreted. I am happy that the game is getting more support, but I will wait until it releases and I will decide if I will get it or not.

It’s E3 gamings biggest event why would they want to show 2 missions when they have a Halo changing event in there cards.

E3 is the time to wow people and two extra missions does not wow people like the flood and a banished campaign.

No other gaming event is a good place to get cool news to the most people.

I understand why 343 showed ATN for E3, but it does feel unfair for season pass owners like myself who were promised a campaign expansion that we’ve heard almost nothing about.

They did detail it a while back in a community update. The one included in the season pass is a 2 mission add on called operation spearbreaker. It is not an expansion like ATN.

OP meant they should of showed the trailer/teaser for the season pack campaign missions, and then show the ATN one. It could of been done both in the same event. Not sure why they didn’t show Spearbreaker.

Probably to be shown off at a lesser event down the road closer to the launch or it.

Exactly the same as I said yesterday.
