Unfair matches

How come in order to win one game in arena I gotta lose like 10 before and after that win lose another 10

Because of skill based matchmaking, if you do even slightly good one game, you will loose like five more until the matchmaking realizes they need to rebalance you with people actually on your skill level and not people who happened to match you k/d that one game.

I’ve found that the ranked slayer mm system pretty much keeps me at 50% w/L rate each season. Win a few then get wrecked a few. I almost exclusively play solo so I have a hard time moving up the ranks even though I have a positive K/D. I guess the mm is doing it’s job and keeping me right where I can win half my games even as a solo player

On the day OP posted he only played Holiday Super Fiesta and he hasn’t played any ranked this season, so the very nature of what he is playing is unfair.

In addition, the matchmaking parameters are loosened in social playlists so you match a wider variety of skill levels.

Unless you’re rly good at the game, I feel like luck is a pretty big factor in winning matches

Just to clarify, the goal of the matchmaker isn’t to ensure everyone has a 50% win rate. The goal is to create matches where either team has approximately a 50/50 chance of winning. There’s an obvious difference there; however, the effect of that goal would likely cause many people to have a win rate that hovers around or somewhat near 50%. Of course this requires the matchmaker to pull from a healthy population throughout the skill spectrum in order to continuously create matches with actual 50/50 odds; otherwise, it’s left to do the best it can with what’s available.

I guess that’s what I’m trying to say. I’m supposed to have a 50/50 chance of winning any given ranked slayer match and the numbers bear that out as I play a rather large number of matches. I can have hot and cold win loss streaks, and even if I go positive the majority of the time I still lose about half the games I play once I’ve played enough games. That suggests that the mm algorithm is actually pretty good even with a small player population. I imagine if I was an incredible solo player I would just get crappier teammates to make my chances of winning 50/50. So I guess the bright side is that if you constantly have crappy teammates, chances are that you are a good solo player!
