Halo 5 made improvements to the radar by defining what Close, Medium and Long range actually is, instead of it being whatever you think. Understanding it can greatly improve your time playing Halo 5.
At first glance, you see the radar displaying everyone that moves and shoots within 30 meters. Pay more attention to detail and you will find 2 circles inside it. Each circle represents 10 meters (close range) and 20 meters (mid range). 30 meters define long range.
At the 10 meter mark is where the ARs and SMGs dominate. Both BR and DMR users needs to keep players away from there as they will completely be destroyed.
20 meters is where the BR dominates. Between 10 and 20 meters, the AR and BR are close matches.Stay at 20 meters if you want to live vs AR users and Stay at 15 meters and less if they are DMR users.
At the outer rim is 30 meters, where the DMR dominates. Sacrificing the radar for having the best precision, use the radar to evade enemy players, or to prep another weapon for a fight. BRs needs to get closer to maximize efficiency, and the ARs shouldn’t bother attacking a DMR user aware of it at 30+ meters. Not even the Smart Scope can save you.
The radar has given significant improvements, and the weapons have been designed around 30 meters as a result. Using it to your advantage is the best way to be efficient with your weapons and to improve your chances of survival against any weapon.
The trick is to use the information presented to you. Don’t ignore it and you should almost always have the best chance of winning the fight based on positioning. Hope this helps you all (unless it gets drowned out by everyone complaining).
