I think you haven’t read the conversation correctly. To reiterate, a hypothetical person cannot be straw-manned because a hypothetical person’s position on something can be whatever the person conjuring the hypothetical wants it to be.
It might be hyperbolic to say someone could believe Purrfect Audio is canon, but it isn’t a straw-man. Do you understand?
I myself can think of a few reasons why something like the cat ears might exist in lore. Maybe the manufacturer created for marketing purposes. Maybe it enhances the auditory perceptiveness of the wearer. Now that would be silly, yes, but that isn’t a dishonest perspective.
Got any data on that? Or are you just going off what you suppose must be the case.

Seriously though, which is it. Does it come down to immersion, suspension of disbelief or canon? When it comes down to it all I really care about for my own part is immersion and frankly the cat ears don’t break the immersion for me. They fit the art style and I just inherently reason that there could be a practical reason for them.
If your argument comes down to suspension of disbelief than you may have some good points, but again, I can easily and happily reason it out in my head.
If it’s about canon then I sincerely don’t care. I think canon is a dumb concept to adhere my interests in. If I cared about canon I would have given up the first time I read an excerpt from one of those early Halo novels or played Halo 4 for the first time.
I’m just curious about why I should care about the cat ears as a sticking point.

I don’t think anyone cares about cat ears. In fact, I don’t think the overwhelm majority feel these cosmetics are worse than any previous instalment, I’d love to have them - but I’m not paying for them. Some people will and if that’s how they roll then sausage rolls for all.
The main issue is with free content, mostly colours, being dull

The only thing I can go off of is that only a fraction of people even against a toggle try to pretend you could somehow believe cat ears belongs in Halos fiction.

On a cat, sure. On a piece of military hardware? Don’t think so. They’re silly, and that’s why they sold. Cause people see something out of place or shiney and open their wallets.
Glad you think they’re cool though. Wouldn’t it be great if we both got what we wanted? You get to see them and all the floral chungus and seasonal disasters that your heart desires and I don’t have to see any of it.

All three of the above. Cat Ears are stupid, people like them for stupid reasons. I think anybody who wants them in Halo is, three for alliteration. Just like I don’t like flames, and I don’t like kill effects.
Sorry if that’s blunt but that’s how I feel about it. Cat Ears and everything else is fine as long as we know it’s place. There’s a reason Fall Guys put a cat ears Spartan helmet in their game.
There will never be a canon Spartan with flames on their arms.
There will never be a canon Spartan with the crazy mohawk coming to Rakshasa.
There will never be a canon Spartan with cat ears, we all know that and we all know why.
Like I pointed out earlier, it’s fiction so you can do that with anything.
It’s about what should be in Halo’s actual world. Cat Ears shouldn’t be.
It’s the most offensive case for a lot of people. And frankly it’s only a sticking point because other people bring them up.
Or rather, we mention them to make it crystal clear which side of a toggle they belong in. And people get caught up on that.

I love being free from all of these labels. I do what I want and watch how predictable most of us are. When I wear my cat ears, my teamates shoot me as if they are being moral or something and then say how leaving a match is bad, but don’t see the hypocrisy in the two. When I had a name that could have been either race, the racists would appear and say stuff. Too predictable are the people who prejudge. Say something new for a change.

On that note, you have yet to provide a solid reason why they don’t belong within Halo’s fiction, with your last example of “Hayabusa” debunked as objectively canonical.
It’s one thing to think it shouldn’t be canon, it’s another thing to argue it shouldn’t be canon without a fundamental reason why and insulting others while barely/ineffectively defending your stance.
Why not? People seemed perfectly ok with toting a Katana into battle in 2007, or being a “lightish red” space marine since 2001.

Aside from being manufactured by “FOTUS” Purrfect Audio really has nothing in common with armor effects or kill effects. I understand the sentiment of removing the last one due to the abruptness and overtness, but armor effects go back to Halo 3 (maybe even Halo 2 if you count the grunt birthday skull). They may have a quality of absurdity, but they also gave precedence. Purrfect Audio also has precedence, and could be utilized in a practical manner if you deduce why “cat ears” are they way they are.
You can feel however you want, the problem is the turn to combativeness rather than continue to discuss.
What’s the reason Fall Guys put that Spartan type in their game? Assuming that logic suggests because “Cat Ears are stupid” does that mean the other Halo themed additions are “stupid” as well because they were added to Fall Guys?
There was a Spartan with a skull carved into their visor, considering it’s see through it, have you ever tried looking through carved glass?
Armor effects didn’t appear in cutscenes in Reach, so it makes sense that they wouldn’t be canonical.
Why can a Spartan wear Purrfect Audio?
Within reason, kinda difficult to justify flames, but still haven’t been given a reason not to justify “cat ears”

Then implement a toggle because there has yet to be a rational reason why they should be censored.

I am against a toggle.
I’d want both. We get power ups based on what we use (For example, Air Assault gets access to VTOL earlier, Pilot can use Sabres, Firefall can drop in and so on). And during Fracture events, there is another mode which only allows the one fracture (so if it was Entrenched, M199X with Nocturne Goggles would get some extra level of visibilty). This would be a cool twist and probably entice people who like hero shooters.
More though, think Battlefront II. Make the description actually mean something. Like buying the knife makes you be able to do assasinations.
I’m referring to the definition of Hyperbole being something like “An exaggeration of something”. Hence why I don’t think it would be hyperbolic, I think people would genuinely freak out.

They’re against the idea of Cat Ears being on one side of a canon toggle. So, inherently that means they’re against the kind of toggle I’m advocating for.
It shouldn’t be canon. Cat Ears are just the same as the haunted helmet from Reach or the floating halo ring or up coming choral fungus and Rakshasa mohawk in Infinite.
Why? Because Halo’s military has always been about conventional and practical gear. We still use the same type of bullets, we still use pump action guns and the UNSC was primarily inspired by Aliens & modern day military gear. Especially Reach and Infinites.
Furthermore, silly or cutesy things have always been part or Halo in a sense of flaming helmets or whatever else. Halo’s art from the forerunners to Chief’s own armour is dictated by simplicity. The world took itself seriously.
The idea of Cat Ears being canon flies in the face of all of that. The only reason anybody is arguing for them to be canon is bitterness over how people treat them.
They’re no different than a bobblehead or holographic bunny ears. The only difference is that cat ears are part of some ‘kin’ identities and they demand to be seen and validated.
Have you got the logs from back then? I don’t. Colours are separate, I wouldn’t take any away bar maybe the really obnoxious and obviously non-canon ones.
Why then? If for any other reason than to disrupt, I can’t think of it. Are we arguing over what should and shouldn’t be toggled?
You both ignored it but I already explained why not. You can argue for anythings fictional reasoning for fictionally existing in a fictional world.

The only thing it needs to have in common is that it doesn’t belong in the canon. Just like blue energy gauntlets or floating visors or Mohawks. Just because it’s a piece of metal to resemble cat ears on headsets doesn’t mean it’s not the exact same.
Just because something was in those games, it doesn’t mean we can’t ask for better now. Also we aren’t talking about removing anything. Just adding a toggle.
There’s nothing wrong with absurdity but this isn’t Halo 2 or 3. The list of absurdities will continue to grow as long as this game is supported.

To what extent? Like you would hate a toggle and want 343 removed from Halo? Or more “If they add a toggle, I’m gonna be disappointed, but ultimately I wouldn’t care.”? Perhaps somewhere in between?
I have(had a old pair of glasses that no one used so i decided to carve into one of the lenses as a kid and called them glasses for pirates lol)

I guess you could split it three ways.
VFX toggle: Disables all cosmetic VFX.
Fracture toggle: Disables fracture armour cores
Canon toggle: Disables all non-canon cosmetics from view.
Up to 343 what fits where. Only they know.

Fotus has already been in canon before. Halo 4 had a helmet called “FOTUS”, which was probably made by (take a guess) Fotus. That helmet (as far as I’m aware) is considered canon.

The only thing i can see toggles for is fractures(bur i doubt it will happen) and vfx(for a performance boost)
All the silly stuff is produced by Fotus. I think that is telling enough how canon it is.
