Wouldn’t the same argument apply to someone wearing the gold plated armor shader? I find that looks tacky and if I had a choice I would toggle that off. At least the cat ears fit in so far as they blend in well with the armor shader.
I think it’s important to remember we are all making value judgments about things based on personal taste. These are subjective opinions. You can make appeal to authority, in this case “canon”, but it still is logical fallacy.
I think some of the cosmetics look absolutely ridiculous but it doesnt affect my gameplay so i personally dont care. My guy looks like a suit of power armor from fallout where as my teammate looks like some anime monstrosity. As long as we perform to get the win, thats all that matters.
It also denotes the plausible functionality of the attachment.
Common sense states that Hayabusa and the in-universe origin behind it is in fact Canon though.
https://www.halopedia.org/Project_HAYABUSA
It appears in both the 2009 and 2011 revision of the official Halo Encyclopedia.
“Common sense” as well as the “example” of common sense you provided is actually not on your side with this one.
Wanna try again?
But why does this make Purrfect Audio noncanon? Because of redundancy? Does that make UA (up armored) attachments on a shielded armor “noncanon” because it’s effectively useless?
Just following the use of your own logic.
The golf club isn’t canon much like the Scarab Gun isn’t canon. They’re reskins/easter eggs located outside the standard area of play utilizing rebuilt dev tools and unorthodox mechanics to obtain them. On that note, Forge actions aren’t canon either.
Maybe I’m not looking close enough at the thread, but I don’t see anyone using the specific argument that the 7 Wood is canon (without conceding the argument), so why create a straw man?
Now that’s not nice.
So again I ask:
Not going to argue against subjective head canon, because I subscribe to the idea there are no sequels after TFA even though objectively there are.
But it does seem that head canon is being mistaken for actual canon in this case.
@Freak_A_Fan bait reacting to a post where nothing is baited, you make it clear you don’t understand what bait is
I’m not really sure what point you’re trying to make?
If people want to dress-up their spartan then let them, no point removing a feature that is working.
As for resource allocation - people would be more unhappy if stuff still took ages and nothing else was updated either.
I was hoping you were going to tell me there was a ridiculous barbie spartan because I would absolutely pay money for that…because spamming that crouch button with a spartan barbie would be the best thing to happen to halo ever.
I agree with this to an extent. Its about what the game values. In this case, Halo values gameplay-momentum and cosmetics don’t effect that. So I don’t care much about the attachments. But if they start adding emotes or dancing is another story, as it will affect the gameplay overall.
If Halo was an MMO RPG, then it wouldn’t matter. But its an FPS. And any new addition should not affect gameplay but its cosmetics.
Thought this post was going in a whole different direction.
Leaving aside that it’s absolutely contrived/jarring/shoehorned in, it’s ok to have the opinion that it’s totally contrary to the spirit of Halo without being [insert your favorite derogatory buzzword here].
tl;dr it’s silly. What’s wrong with silly you ask? For a brand to have name recognition it needs to have it’s own voice, a unified look and feel; anything “silly” should exist within the context of the thing. Cat ears represent the watering down of Halo. It’s the devs selling out to cash in quick on cutesy crap at the expense of the franchise (“milking” in common parlance). Following cheap trends that that aren’t in any way representative of the community’s wishes. And you might not mind that. But OG fans do, because they love the game. It’s not just another fun activity that they’ll move on from once it goes down in flames.
I guess I’m trying to define the meaning of the word “authenticity.” It’s taken me a long time to admit it but no one in 343i leadership has a clue what they’re doing.
See? This is what I’ve been saying for months now! This right here is why I will never forgive 343 for caving in to this “fanbase” that’s full of nostalgia fanboys!
Cat ears represent the watering down of Halo.
This 100%! Cat ears are the worst thing I’ve ever seen get added to Halo hands down.
Of course that is subjective, and I also find them to be not fitting of the overall Halo theme. However, the ears are probably the single most profitable cosmetic that 343 has released to date. They aren’t going away, ever. In fact, much more to come. Any bets on when the fox tail will make its debut?
Reason being we saw a paradigm shift in art style, which is valid to raise some concern about.
Why change something so dramatically that wasn’t even close to being broken?
What specifically (please give examples) is out of place and why.
I haven’t seen much to the extent of this outside of a few players suggesting it for the lulz.
I don’t see a problem with “nostalgia fanboys” voicing their adamancy for a return to the good ‘ol days of great Halo that finally got us a game that’s closer to the original vision (both gameplay and artistically) of the franchise.
It’s far from perfect, but it’s certainly not a step in the wrong direction.
But why? What makes them so bad?
@ExMOSBoss you’re more than welcome to follow up on your own points to elaborate further in our dialogue if you’d like, our conversation is back in your court if I recall just waiting on your response. Bait reacting when there is no bait won’t get us anywhere.
The ears are literally two metal pyramids on the top of a helmet that at least attempt to stay in the artstyle meanwhile the holographic bunny ears and the Christmas stuff in the files don’t but all you see is
I don’t like cat ears this game is turning into fortnite reeee
TheMeta_Chief (Not tagging him because I don’t need to, especially since they’ll come anyways), said they’d be fine with it. Which makes me wonder, what makes the cat ears so different? Is it just the mindset of “furry bad!!!”? Or is it just, “I truly and utterly think they’re stupid.” I mean, the reasons given to Trand0 have been kinda “meh”.
By that logic there is not a lot of canon armor, weapons, or subtypes. Considering MOST of the armor types are out of cutscenes.
This also fails because if you use Yoroi and watched the s2 first cutscene it appears on your Spartan. We know it’s non canon as it’s fracture. So factually this ideology is wrong.
I feel like you didn’t read that at full. A few different times I called attention to the fact that this terminology is being used to shame others here in the forums. I posed the question why.
If they caved to nostalgia fanboys cat ears wouldn’t have been a thing it wouldve been the next round of Hayabusa, or a burning plasma nade attached to the helmet.
Okay so after 80 comments I’ve figured it out.
Everyone is butthurt about cat ears because they think it’s the total downward spiral of halos art style, despite the fact that the atrocities of h4 and 5 armor setup far surpasses the minor impact of 3 dollar cat ear helmet attachments.
Had ANYONE said a single thing about the reallocations of resources to work on cosmetics instead of performance and interface issues; I might be a little more open to everyone ideals.
HOWEVER. Not a single comment here references these things. Most are arguments about CAT EARS. JUST CAT EARS. I’ve seen 3 about mohawks and 2 mentions of Santa hats.
You all are so hung up on a set of ears that dropped almost a year ago that instead of voicing these problems towards devs, you’re attacking and insulting or discrediting eachother. (Two people have had comments flagged and hidden for insulting or demeaning behavior)
The community united against the H4/5 art style and it changed.
They complained about sprint and movement thrusters.
It changed.
Want something to truly be different, stop pointing fingers at eachother and unite.
THIS like halo 5 was atrocious with its armor and not in the goofy type of silly where the armor was intended to be a joke minus 2(the pig helmet that i don’t know the name of and the Timmy helmet ie whale helmet)
Halo infinite artstyle is way better than 343’s old artstyle
