Good God, what the hell is wrong with this mission? I got to the second stage of the mission easily enough, but at the point where you take control of Alice, I just can not finish the mission out. The absolutely broken Glassing Cannon and that other Vortex power wipes out my army at an insane rate; faster than I can even replace them. There’s barely any warning for either of them, the cooldown is either nonexistent or stupidly fast, and both of them are easily capable of totally destroying infantry or light vehicles (which are of course the only options on that trash mission.)
Combine that with the surprisingly powerful band of roving Hunters and Engineers that, even if you manage to kill them with your now mostly dead army from those stupid -Yoinking!- powers, and you just can’t stop them. Especially since the entire force respawns faster than you build a replacement army…
I’m all for challenging campaign missions and all, but holy -Yoink-. I can’t understand why anyone at CA thought it would be a good idea to give the AI such a godly power that you can barely do anything about.
Build eight or so kodiaks, and do a leap frog tactic where you have a squad of snipers of 4 or so and send one at a time to get vision while stealthed. I lost maybe two squads of marines on legendary. Have a few squads of marines and cyclops to mop up any stragglers that the kodiaks can’t take care of. Also remember to try to position the kodiaks in an concave ark instead of as a big blob. Makes a great killzone.
The AI’s leader powers only proc if it has vision on your units btw, so this tactic allows you to attack from outside the visual range of its units. It might seem like this strat will take forever, but it is faster than throwing units at the problem with limited resources.
PS, at the second position, you may want some wolverines to take care of the banshees and engineers.
It’s pretty tough on normal, but how the hell did you beat the mission before it? I had to do that mission like 5 times on normal before I could beat it.

How do you manage to pull that off with that roving band of Hunters (plus the Engineers, Banshees, etc) constantly making that loop and seem to quickly respawn?

You mean the defense mission? I spammed Infantry from the forward mini base to hold the west line, and supported both that line and the east side using hordes of Hornets. I figured that given the huge size of the map, air units would be the best option.
You could use spare resources on whatever you want, but I rather liked those siege turrets at the base. Building up all 4 of them is an expensive endeavor (3600 supplies total iirc) but you’d be surprised how much damage all 4 of them do with 1 volley.

I keep at least half of all my kodiaks deployed at all times and I never go forward with my army first. I gain vision with the snipers to scout out for good positions to deploy and then ambush from the highground. 8-9 kodiaks is a critical mass as the DPS basically shreds hunters before they can get to you, and the squad of snipers helps as well. Alice, marines and wolverines basically take care of any banshees that come your way, and a few cyclops can help negate any concerns with vehicles that survive the bombardment.
Now for movement, I first built up around six kodiaks and some snipers and went right to kill the warlord and capture the power relay, and then circled back and advanced towards the first firing positiion. From there I advanced toward the first expansion and researched reinforcements and built wolverines to support my 8-9 kodiaks, 4 marines, 4 snipers, and Alice. from there I advanced towards the wall and used the snipers to gain vision of the turrets and units so that the Kodiaks could bombard them from out of range. I then went along the right towards the second expansion and the power relay and set up all of my kodiaks near the wall/cliff. I then posted my marines, wolverines, cyclops, and Alice towards the northern front and then had the snipers circle back and head towards the valley entrance towards the second firing position. I then use one sniper at a time while stealthed to gain vision to thin out the enemies and the send my assault force towards the second firing position to clear it out. Then I set up a firing line towards the second shield wall with the assault force just barely in front of the kodiaks to intercept any air units, and repeat the sniper scouting method. From there, killing the main base is pretty easy as the kodiaks attack from afar and the archer missiles help to soften up the base to hasten its destruction.
The key to making this strategy work is fully upgrading all of your units and being patient. Each advance of kodiaks should always be in range of the ones that are still deployed and that their should be an arc of them with the center of the encirclement pointing towards the enemy. If you have 4 snipers and send one at a time while cloaked you should never have to worry about waiting for a cooldown.
ETA: that roving band only spawns from the main base, so if you get to that cliff/ ridgeline then you should be good to go from there.

That probably would’ve been a good idea if I had done it. I just spammed cyclops, warthogs, and hellbringers.
i built loads of marines, but theres much worse
I’ve just recently finished most of the mission on legendary and it’s pretty hard especially (spoilers) the halo mission (11) when you have to capture all 3 nodes. But they continuously spawn enemies at each point so you have to defend and capture at all times which reduces the amount on infantry you have at each location. And the beginning part of the mission is hard as well because you have to survive a full on attack with little amount of troops and like it’s been mentioned the enemy leader skills are just too op by just wiping out all your units as you attempt to capture a node and it’s doesn’t help that it feel like they recharge every 20 seconds the only thing I suggest is use any and all skulls which boost your gameplay but you lose points at the end of the match
More spoilers. On the beach level with Alice during the first wave leave a wraith untouched on the west beach and you won’t progress to the next objective. You can use this time freely to produce more units and fully upgrade everything. My strategy was to have 5 tanks on west 1 on north and east have some fully upgraded marines at each point and 3 healing flying units (forgot there name) at west and 1 each at north and east
this strat is only effective if you use my first point about the first wave this will give you plenty of time to fully upgrade all your units so they don’t wipe easy

I did a similar thing except I used tanks, hornets, and nightingales. 3 tanks and 16 hornets on the main beach and 2 tanks on the lesser sides. The hornets rip up locusts and Wraiths while the tanks sit back and take out infantry

How do you deal with the attacking enemies from the right while you are advancing to the first firing position on the left?

I left Alice and about 3 kodiaks, as well as rail gun turrets to guard the base after I killed the warlord and captured the power node.

It’s not hard, just time consuming.
Legendary took me over an hour to do. The powers would clean my armies. Idek if its possible to get a gold medal on that map.
practically every mission is really hard on Heroic. Those Brute Warlords are a pain in the butt to fight against. I hate how I make an army of units and then go attack and then they are instantly dead. But yeah, the second half with Alice is a huge pain. I eventually beat it and boy was I happy. I’m on the second to last mission on my first play through only on heroic and I am getting fed up with how retarded the enemies are that I have decided I am going to start using skulls to win the game.

Only an hour on legendary?? It took me 143 minutes on Heroic. I was ready to hill myself but then I finally found a working strat
It was a pain in the yoink but I did it in my first attempt on solo legendary. You just gotta play smart on this mission.
Gold medal on this mission though? That’s another story.
Did this on legendary took over 3 hours, what a -Yoink-. Glad though. Don’t have to replay it on legendary to get the skulls. My strategy was to play all missions on legendary the first time round, then go back to get everything on easy.
