Fun balance and Fairness… That’s all I want from Halo 4 Fun maps and Vehicles such as the Elephant and Pelican, Balance: Weapons, Vehicles and Powerups that don’t destroy the sandbox and can’t be abused. And Fairness: A ranking system that matches people up with other of the same skill level. basically a game that is easy to pick and Hard to Master… That’s it. But some very determined people are trying to get rid of that formula…
Playing Customs
Don’t get me wrong… I love to play socially, check out my service record all I do on reach is Forge and host Custom games which are mostly Infection Maps… Fat Kid, Ghostbusters you name it… In custom games I’m just playing for fun… playing casually.
Matchmaking
But when I go on matchmaking I should be allowed to play competitively… I’m not saying that EVERYONE needs to play competitively but the playlist should allow for competitive gameplay… keep the unbalanced Custom games features, in Custom games… don’t bring those features into matchmaking in the form of OP crutches such as Prothemean vision or perks. Yes they may be “fun” to some players but it stops people from being allowed to play competitive and is stopping their fun.
Classic Playlists A.K.A Non Broken Halo.
343i has said there will be one playlist that will have “Traditional” settings to it… sorry 343i it’s not classic its balanced, unlike the standard Halo 4 this playlist will be the only playlist that can be played competitively, where you can test you skill in a fair environment (isn’t that what a game is supposed to be?) If you can’t balance a feature within the game don’t put it in that’s all I’m saying.
Fun, fair and balanced
I don’t care where 343 gets it ideas from as long as it fits into Halo well, is balanced, fun and fair… Sadly 343i is getting some ideas from Call of Duty, which does really fit into halo that well, isn’t fun, is not balanced and isn’t fair to new players i.e. progression system.
That’s it for Now. All it want is Fun, balanced and fair Halo 4. It that too much to ask for?
-Discuss.
To me everything they’ve added doesn’t change halo 4 from being halo. It still plays like Halo, just a little different. Which is fine.
Everything except for AAs that is. AAs completely change the game. The entire game revolves around using and countering them. They stop halo from being halo.
You want to play competitively but you say that Promethean vision is an OP crutch? I’m pretty sure if you want to win you’ll use all your resources. Not just “do the best you can with only one.”
> You want to play competitively but you say that Promethean vision is an OP crutch? I’m pretty sure if you want to win you’ll use all your resources. Not just “do the best you can with only one.”
Yeah when halo 4 drops… I will be using and abusing Promethean vison… before it get removed I realise that it is broken so im would rather it be prevented than to destroy the balance within the game.
I can feel your frustration. Probably the most important thing is to have a clear boundary between social slayer and competitive slayer. The less AA play a role in the game, the more easy it is to design maps and balance the sandbox; however this does not mean that AA need to be removed or even nerfed. Just make them play a more important role in social slayer and more of a support role in competitive slayer (and in certain competitive modes no role at all except perhaps as a pick-up). I’m not to bothered about the rest (like the medal reward system) as most of it will be in certain playlists so I can just avoid them if I want to.
343 could really help the situation and ease peoples minds if they could just announce the existence of multiple playlist without perks and AA’S. There are many players who left Reach that would appreciate knowing at least part of H4 will be real Halo. It would also quite all the rage on the forums.
Suit yourself… Modifications, Specializations, and Armor Abilities won’t keep me from playing Halo 4 competitively. I see Halo 4 as Halo, and as long as I can win I can play it competitively.
Most of the issues are about “competitive” features, right? Features that encourage team effort to win. One might say that Reach, especially the ranking system, made things focus less on winning and more on focusing on yourself to rank up and get things. I partially agree with that.
The main solution to this problem lies in the ranking system. There are supposed to be 2, technically. If there is at least 1 that lets you rank up competitively, like Halo 3, then there is start to the solution. Then the ranking system has to be able to make good, balanced teams. Based on the competitive rank. Then you play with “competitive” people, and the teams aren’t very lopsided. Thats another part of the solution. Now, there is a pretty clear line between “competitive” and “casual”. Those that don’t neccesarily care about the “competitive” ranks don’t have to care. Those that do can play with others that care, and most of them should be willing to play “competitively”.
Thats my theory, at least. Anyways, I don’t really care too much, as I said, I can still see myself playing Halo 4 competitively and enjoying it.

Specialisations are WAY worse than Armour Abilities.

How can you play a game competitively when it’s inconsistent… No matter how small it is it turns that game into a game of chance… ie the AA’s which is basically rock paper sissors (343i said this themselves) and bloom which can be spammed and get a lucky kill.

They’re better than Reach’s Rock, Rock, Rock, Paper.
I can win, and thats what I need. For you, it may be different, but for me… if I can win I can play it competitively. If your definition of competitive is different than mine, please share your definition.
I can use skill. Skill to adapt to different combat situations, such as overcoming a Hardlight Shield or countering PV. Its quite different than the original trilogy, yes, but for me I like it. Take advantage of certain things, like specializations, to help me and my team win, use them to overpower enemies. They’ll try it to, giving a nice, intense fight. I like that. The ranking system can help that.
> How can you play a game competitively when it’s inconsistent…
Easily. I did it last night. Me and a group of friends rolled through BTB, Squad DLC and Rumble Pit with the drive to win. Employed different strategies, kept up with weapon spawn times, map control, wasn’t all that hard.

No it doesn’t, and no they don’t. Simple as that.
> I agree with you completely and it sucks that alot of fans don’t want to realize this so instead of wanting to fix it they encourage the change.
>
> But as long as they make a Halo 3 style Classic mode and a Halo: Reach style mode i’m good.
They’ll add one “classic” playlist with no AAs or custom loadouts. It’ll be played so little that 343 will take it down and nobody but a couple really vocal people on this site will protest, because nobody else really gives a crap.

So because somthing is inconsistent but works for you… it has to stay, Fix these problems will make the game run more smoothly

I want you to highlight where I said that, because it would seem you are intentionally trying to twist my words. You asked how anyone can play competitively when the game is “inconsistent”, I said we just employed the same strategies any “competitive” player would use, map control, waiting on power weapon spawns, all that jazz.

Ok didn’t mean to twist your words… look, I just want to load up Halo 4 and for it to run as smoothly as possilbe with little need for patches unlike reach, Yes a classic playlist may seem pointless to some… but since we have some much rubbish that more than likey going to unbalance the game I have no choice to push for a classic playlist.
If the main game runs well there is no need for it. If it runs badly we need somthing to fall back on A.K.A classic playlists.
