I just think it would make a total difference to moments when a player finds themselves without a weapon.
Melee would still do the same amount of damage to be fair, but would have faster attack speed, say maybe 50%. I know it seems a lot, but running up on someone with ANY weapon, you’re gonna be outmatched instantly. Just a suggestion, I think it would be cool.
I agree with that. With the thrust most likely being removed from multiplayer (at least as a character default), it would be good for a faster version of the melee. It could even have that slight lunge like Halo 3. Also, if you watch the gameplay demo aging (here’s the clip Halo Infinite | Campaign Gameplay Premiere – 8 Minute Demo - YouTube) it looks like the melee animation is a little faster than Halo 5 and I think it even has that small lunge. That might just be me but idk.
I like it but we will see how the game dynamics feel. This is one of those things that could make everything else hard to balance around it, but with a little thought and preparation really shouldn’t be that hard to add.I mean we are getting a grappling hook so if 343 thinks they can pull that off and keep it feeling like Halo I would imagine immersive CQB could get some upgrades all around.
It doesn’t really fit, if you ask me. While on deployment, a soldier is always going to have their weapon at arms length. Maybe a scripted event, like Chief is chillin’ in the barracks playing Xbox Live, then the banished bust down the door in a surprise attack, his weapon is on the other side of the room. Or he is captured then escapes and needs to find a weapon. In any case, you’ll pick up the first weapon you come across.

Sometimes there aren’t any weapons, sometimes you run out of all ammo.
I disagree, I think it would fit really well.

There’s no doubt 343 can pull it off, it’s all about the balancing. I would love to see something done with CQB in Halo, but I do believe we’re gonna see a massive overhaul to every aspect of the series.

That could be part of the experience! As mentioned above, melee would not outpower a weapon. Having an event like you described might emphasize the importance of your spartan’s firearm by allowing the player to experience a significant power drop while unarmed. Maybe the start of whatever stealth mission inevitably ends up in the title?
This could work if they implement something like Apex where you can holster your weapons at any time to gain a slight boost to your walking and running speed. I don’t know how balanced an actual increase in melee attack speed would be but a simple movement boost would probably be enough. Could lead to interesting choices where you would holster your weapon to try to get away from enemies faster. I don’t know if that would work in multiplayer but I guess we won’t know unless 343 tries it
It would be cool if you pulled out the combat knife when unarmed and the melee speed/damage functioned similarly to what your talking about with the unarmed combat. I feel like that might be tricky.
I personally think that 343 should make a game mode where you fight players with only your fists, kind of related to the gulag in COD.
It would be cool for Forge where you could have Boxing tournaments.

Yea it holds a lot of potential for custom play.

I’ve always wanted this feature as since halo 3’s crows nest when you don’t have a weapon- it can totally happen on easy, normal, or even heroic difficulty. At the start of crows nest you actually move slightly faster than without a weapon-and punch quicker too.
