Unable to use dedicated GPU for Halo 5: Forge

Hello everyone,

I really hope someone can help me with this issue because I’ve tried everything I know to solve it and research hasn’t given me any solid answers.

My laptop does meet the minimum system requirements (see below) for Halo 5: Forge so I had no issues installing the game. I can also run the game but I get the following error message: “Warning, your computer does not meet the minimum system requirements. You may encounter performance or stability issues. 0x80000003” and the game is grainy and laggy. Running system monitors show that my dedicated GPU isn’t being used at all and it defaults to the built in Intel HD Graphics. I’ve updated my GPU drivers and set halo5forge.exe to “High Performance” in AMD Radeon Settings but it’s still using the Intel GPU. Am I being a noob here or is there something else I can do to force the use of my AMD GPU?

Here are my system specs:

OS: Windows 10 Version 10.0.14393 Build 14393
Architecture: X64
DirectX: Feature Level 11
RAM: 8GB
VRAM: 2GB
Processor: Intel Core i7-5500U CPU @ 2.40GHz, 2401 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)
Graphics: AMD Radeon R5 M330

Hi there,

I had the same issue with my Nvidia GPU. I went to the Nvidia control panel and changed the setting there to use the Nvidia GPU instead of the intel HD graphics for my base profile. Perhaps there is something similar for an AMD GPU?
I don’t know if it helped at all but I hope it did.

Best of luck anyhow

I did that but it still doesn’t use my AMD one😢

Thanks for the suggestion though!

Your laptop does not meet the minimum specs. In fact, your integrated GPU is exactly as powerful as your dedicated one anyway.

The only requirement I don’t meet is the type of GPU they specify but it does has 2GB so it shouldn’t be an issue. My integrated GPU isn’t as powerful as my dedicated one.

I can run the game, the issue I’m having is with getting it to run using my AMD processor as it keeps defaulting to my integrated one.

i have this same issue except i cannot set the nvidia control panel to use halo 5 forge in the program settings menu.

If you mean you cannot add Halo 5 Forge exe to NVIDIA control panel… just set the NVIDIA GPU option globally in the global tab, instead of the program settings tab. That will let you use the NVIDIA GPU for everything instead of “auto select” for everything. I’m not sure why you can’t add Halo 5 to the program settings tab, but I’d set that option globally anyway if I had a laptop with a better GPU in it than the integrated graphics processor.

Well in reality you are using a “Onboard GPU CHIP” When running the game your ram will drop from 8GB to 6GM not including the Operating system memory usage.
You will need at min. of 12 gigs and cpu that is running at least 3ghz and video card that has least 2 to 4 gigs of memory. The program is very grafic intensive. I run a EVGA 770 with all the grafix settings set on high getting 60fps with no problems with the grafix with this program.

I’m surprised there still isn’t a fix for this issue, as it exists with almost every windows store app. I have an Intel Core i7-7700H, GTX 1060 6GB, and 16GB DDR4 RAM, but for whatever reason Halo 5 Forge and almost every other windows store game will only run on the CPU’s integrated graphics, resulting in poor performance and overheating. It should be a simple fix, as it is with Steam games, but due to the file encryption no amount of finagling will allow your PC to choose which GPU to run it on. Again, though, this is only true for almost every windows store app, as I have no issues running the MCC on dedicated graphics, and I’ve downloaded that off of the windows store as well through Gamepass. This is something Microsoft themselves need to look into, as it’s been a issue for far too long.
