Unable to find match (Free-for-all)

I was barely able to get ranked (diamond 1) upon getting ranked I have been able to find one free-for-all. I constantly get unable to match messages. From reading other posts does the matchmaking system only search for players in your region? I currently live in South Korea. I understand rank integrity but I don’t mind playing against Onyx or Champion league people or even Gold or Platinum, I just want to play a game… I see streamers on Twitch getting FFA games no problem but I cannot find a game to save my life.

Anyone else having this issue?

Yes! I am in Australia and can’t get a match in team arena or free for all. “Unable to match” and I am not even ranked yet.

Just got into slayer match.

Go into your xbox settings and change the time zone to somewhere more densely populated like the U.S.

I’m not sure if that would work, I think it goes off of IP address but I’m going to try it.

I just got inside the forum because I got the same problem! I live in the South of China. I have been playing plenty of matches. But for some reason Free-for-all cannot find any match! I just did one two days ago. And now nothing!
I am so happy with this game! I will be playing the rest of modes will 343i solve this issue!

Here you have the key… It is something about the location. I have the Xbox in Spanish because I am from Spain, so necessarily I have to put my location Spain , but I live in China… This is just ridiculous… I cannot have my games in Spanish because I am working in other country? :SSSS
I am going to change location to Australia right now! And give you an answer in few minutes guys!

Well, I just change the location to Australia. And the result is exactly the same, nothing changed. So definitely this is something about the net.

Anyway, if someone here has more ideas can say something. I am just having issues with Free-for-all… Rest of modes are going PERFECT. I can find matches waiting matter of seconds or one minute.

As I see it, Halo 5 matchmaking is “geo-location” based meaning you are going to be matched with people in the
near vicinity by the connected ip. Also, I think there is a latency limit where when your connection to others players
exceeds a certain latency point, it will not allow you to connect to them.

Now, this will give a somewhat lag free smooth gameplay. Hooray for those gamers located where Xbox One
consoles are popular. (US, Canada, UK…)

The problem is for those regions where the XO is not that popular compared to those above countries.

Because of limited number of XO owners and players, they will have a hard time finding Warzone game modes
since it has a minimum limit of people needed to start a game. As for Arena, it’s kinda OK because like team
slayer can start with just 5~6 players.

Since 343 was promoting Warzone as the key element of Halo 5, it is kinda sad to see this “geo-location” matchmaking
taking the joy out of playing with Halo fans on a world wide basis.

I wish they had a matchmaking search criteria in the options menu. Call Of Duty Black Ops 1 by Treyarch had a similar problem
in the beginning but solved it by giving options to set the matchmaking search criteria.

1. Local search
(just do matchmaking within your country. good connection, few matches)

2. Region search
(do matchmaking within your region like europe/asia/north america/south america/middle east/russia and so on. mild connection, more matches)

3. Global search
**(do matchmaking globally. weak to mild connection, most matches)**Let the gamers choose what kind of experience they would like to get out of Halo 5. More warzone games modes except sacrificing lag or Lag-free gameplay except finding warzone games more difficult.

I agree. I don’t know numbers, but for sure the big fan base is in USA, but I can guarantee that here tons of people playing Halo 5. Thousands for sure. I can play any kind of match, arena and warzone zero issues. Best online game experience for me, I feel really happy with my Halo 5. It is just the free for all game… It is pretty weird that I cannot find anybody.

Same here! I’m from Australia and FFA is my favourite gamemode (ever since halo 3). I’ve only been able to find 1 FFA match since launch, and the search will time out before I even find another player. Everything else works ok - there’s an occasional wait on some other playlists but not much over a minute. NAT is open and everything.

How about this, i have the same problem with FFA only, cant connect to a single match since my first, but my house mate, on the same xbox and internet connection can… That makes no sense what so ever…

Same xbox and internet connection! Then he is using his account, that is the only difference. Am I right? So, it is kind of our accounts cannot get any match for FFA? No sense at all… I stop even trying. No a big fun of FFA, but I just wanted to do 10 games to get classified… I hate to see the rest of games in Gold or Platinium and just that one with nothing…

This! why 343i don’t do this? it’s was so hard to figure it out?

What a shame we are even discussing this! I live in China as well and I find that it only will join a game if it says “Starting Dedicated server.” Just allow us to choose whether we want local, regional, or global games!

Hi there! Nice to see more english speaker in China. I just added you to my friends!
For me everything goes just perfect! Zero issues with the rest of the modes. It is just this one: Free for all. After playing one single match I have been trying and trying. Nothing! So weird, even this doubles weekend I can play totally fine.
Please 343i can give us some answer? It is pretty weird!

I live in Australia and could connect to 8 FFA games pretty much in quick succession (found games within 2-4mins) but now can’t find a game in FFA at all?

What is the problem here?
a mod above says they were looking into it a week ago - sure hope they fix the issue before other games come out and we lose even more population.

Exact same problem, got 3 matches in a row a week ago, haven’t been able to find a match in the last 3 days.
