"Un-readable disc" error possible solution

I am sure that many of you have been brought to this website in search of remedies to those technological failures that you are facing while “attempting” to play Halo 4. I was facing such a quandary, and I found a solution (wish I remembered who posted it so I could thank them) which has worked for me for 2 days (about 30 matchmaking games so far). I was experiencing both the “un-readable disc” error, and would be kicked back to the start menu at times. I exchanged my copy of the game so many times that the old woman at customer services in Wal-Mart remembered my name and would simply say, “Another one, huh?” (pathetic). I believe that these issues stem from the discs themselves, in that they were not set up to accommodate the older generation (white) systems; it’s a shame that a music major from Maine had to help 343i come to this realization. Solution that worked for me:

  1. Delete all Halo information from HDD (including any hooked up external hard drive). It’s not the end of the world, and all of your stats are still saved on the internet.

  2. Remove your gamer tag from your system (again, not the end of the world because… you can recover your gt)

  3. Clear system cache (go to system settings, find the device you are using to save games, click “x” (blue button), and select clear cache (do this like 4 times, it takes all of 15 seconds).

  4. Reboot your system, and recover your gamer tag.

  5. Download Halo 4 disc one, and then disc two.

  6. Hopefully, at this time you will be able to hop online with your buddies and enjoy this (pre-maturely released) game.

Take care!

Mine has never been that troublesome, I’m using an aged, 6 year old console. It will say dirty or damaged when I try to boot it or unrecognized disc, I take it out, look at it, then put it back in and it works.

Not even trolling, if I don’t look at it for like 2 seconds, it won’t work. No idea why. If I just take it out and move it around or try to spin it in the tray with my finger, nothing. I actually have to look at it.
