Since Halo 5’s release, I have seen a lot of people claim that they do not like the UI. Personally I do not understand this as I think the UI is pretty good. Everything is in a tidy place and the different lobbies are clearly separated from eachother e.g Arena is separated from Warzone. The other menus are also laid out well in my opinion as they are not cluttered and each function on the menu is clear. Personally I also like the font and styling they have used and the background but that is just me. However I don’t like how in lobbies you can’t see player names before the match has started and you can’t mute or view service records or anything.
So why is it that people do not like the UI? This isn’t a post saying ‘the UI is good and if you say different you are wrong’, I am purely asking why you think it is not a good UI, if you believe that.
So far the only part of the UI I don’t like is the in game REQs and the Customization of your character. Everything else I either don’t have a problem with or I understand why its there (like the lobby)

I wish the customisation was done differently but I’m not sure if that falls under UI or actual features of the game. I wish you could pick separate body pieces rather than a full armour, as do most people.

Sometimes I get serious lag when looking at the scoreboard in-game. Not very often but I’ve only noticed it happen recently and it’s really severe when it happens.
Because almost all Halos besides CE and maybe 2 had a better UI than this, it sucks for the most recent game in a long standing franchise to downgrade from previous games. This sums up my feelings, but if you want I can do a full paper on why I think its bad.
I liked being able to see whether an opposing team was partied up like in Reach. The customization menu could certainly use some organization or at least the ability to favorite certain armor pieces. The only other issue I have is with loadouts for Warzone it would be nice to be able to favorite specific loadout weapons so you didn’t have to cycle through 12 variants before you get to the one that you would like to use.
Multiple times It has took me weeks to even months to find an emblem/armour/helmet I knew I had
some times I auto spawn while trying to equip my reqs cause it takes too long to find what I want
It crashes a lot especially if in a fire team like 3-4 times an hour. 99 percent of crashes happen while in the menus not while playing why is the ui so unstable. No other game crashes like halo 5 there is no close 2nd.
Can’t see who’s taking in lobby
cant see who is on your team and who is on the other team
UI gives you zero information on the player not even so much as their Spartan avatar
cant stay in a lobby with other players
took them six months (six months?) to add in an actual post game carnage report
req stations law terribly
no option to view assassination animations
THis is only a small sampling as to why the UI is terrible
The UI is so bad that it literally struggles to work. It’s routine for the REQ system to allegedly be unavailable and thus not allow you to use boosts. Sometimes it gets so bad that you can go entire Warzone matches without anything but the standard AR and magnum. The screen will regularly freeze when exiting out of the carnage report after a match. Certain medals, such as the extermination medal, don’t even show up in the carnage report. Sometimes the option to invite or join a friend will disappear completely, and you will either have to restart the game or just endure it until it works. You can’t even mute one person; instead, you have to blanket mute the whole lobby. When looking at the scoreboard, especially in Warzone, the game will lag heavily and the frame rate will plummet.
And those are just the purely objective, functional reasons as to why Halo 5’s UI is terrible. There are plenty of others, such as customization items only being ordered by when you unlock them, having to scroll through 200+ helmets, armors, and emblems to equip something you like, nothing but emblems showing in the pre-game lobby (not even XP ranks and the rest of the emblem bar), a complete lack of a party-up option, no listing of parties and teams in the pre-game lobby,…
I thought Halo 4’s UI was bad, but damn, Halo 5’s makes it look godly. At least in H4, you could see player’s armor, stances, teams, and ranks in the lobbies. 343 should just copy and paste Reach’s UI for Halo 6 because it’s the closest thing to a perfect UI.

You have to go through a loading screen to switch from Arena to Warzone.
You can’t easily see what a new helmet or armor type would look like on your spartan.
Then, trying to switch back is a nightmare, scrolling through 100+ options that aren’t in any sensible order.
Under weapon skins, the image of the spartan and the weapon actually obscures some of the skin options, so that you can’t see what they are.
The UI constantly loses connection with the REQ service.
It’s pretty good. I just wish the pre-game lobby was more like the original games.
Let us scroll through the players. Show us everyone’s rank (give us an actual rank instead of a number -_-) next to their name as well as the option to view their stats and stuff like that. Don’t make us wait until the end of a match when everyone’s gone.
I like it myself. The only thing I take issue with is the inability to sell mass quantities of REQ’s at one time. We all know the scenario. Trying to get rid of those 70+ Commons or weapons you never use only to find out you have to do it one at a time. Sure it doesn’t take THAT LONG but that is far more time than I’d like to spend just to offload some useless REQ’s.
I do wish the pre-game lobby was a little better. Half the fun is communicating with the opposing team before the match. Also, I haven’t looked into it but is proximity mic still a thing? You know… Close enough to another player on the opposing team during the game and you can hear them faintly? I haven’t heard anyone but I haven’t investigated to see if this was an option anymore either.

Fair enough, I agree it has downgraded since previous games.

Favouriting of armour and weapons would be good, I have thought that before. It really is annoying having to scroll through about 30 BRs to get to the one I want by the end of the game.

Yeah I agree it’s annoying, the best thing to do is use the chrome extension that literally just allows you to sell as many as you want at a time, it’s seriously useful I would recommend using it if you don’t already and I can send you the link if you need it.
Yeah I wish you could see who was talking in the pre-game lobby aswell as seeing their names and being able to look at their armour and service records etc.

The scoreboard issue only happens sometimes, at least for me. But I agree it shouldn’t happen at all and hopefully it will be fixed. The Warzone loadout thing isn’t a UI issue, it’s more of a game content issue because the issue is that the game can’t load your Reqs rather than not being able to access the menu.
I agree with the rest of the things you said, they really are annoying things and do make the UI bad. I don’t really notice them until they are pointed out to me and that is bad. However I don’t think they’re game breaking (apart from the scoreboard and Warzone one but at least they aren’t permanent issues and hopefully they can be fixed) and even though they’re very annoying, they can be endured although they shouldn’t have to be. Hopefully 343 learns from these problems and either fixes them, or never makes these mistakes again.
