With unlimited Sprint, booster packs, sliding, “hovering,” etc. how are grenades even going to be useful anymore?
All you have to do when a grenade lands near you is to boost away. Or if you’re about to fall onto a grenade, you can just hover in the air and let it explode before you fall down.
Like seriously, do grenades even need to be in the game anymore? What damage can they inflict now that you can climb up walls when you fail at a jump and jet around with the booster frame and sprint around everywhere?
Edit: Same with rockets and any other slow-moving projectile. All this emphasis on speeding and boosting away means that it’s much easier to get yourself out of bad situations.
The gameplay footage shows that there are no grenade indicators anymore, players will have to rely on their situational awareness to avoid grenades. To counter increased mobility, perhaps grenades have a larger radius now. It’s hard to say until we get hands-on ourselves.
If you bounce frag grenades off surfaces right, they’ll explode as they reach your opponent instead of a second after, making them much harder to dodge. I’m amazed at how many people in previous Halos never realized/used this. Maybe they’ll finally be forced to git gud.

Except in CE, if you bounce frags off a ground surface, they will explode exactly 1 second later. CE’s frags had to rest on a ground surface before their fuses started.
Where I can understand Jetpacks being something that makes 'nading a bit more difficult, that I can reliably bounce a frag for a 1 second fuse blast OR shoot my frag out of the air makes me NOT worried about the mechanics we’ve seen.
…Bounce a 'nade of the ground to the left, thruster to the right while firing, melee or headshot the leftovers. No amount of TP or sprint will allow a Spartan to avoid a well placed grenade if it is indeed well placed. There’s no Armour Lock or Bubble Shield here.
