Types of spartans....

I was wondering, do Spartans have a job in the UNSC.
I am a United States Marine, and my job is base firefighter (Crash Crew).
For example… are there Sniper Spartans, Spartans that do black op missions, pilot Spartans, etc.
I was wondering this because in halo reach there are different types of armor
Like Security, commando, haz ops etc. Do Spartans get armor that matches there job, or career
Thank You

This is more of a question for the Universe, so it may get moved, but I’ll give an answer.

Spartans are pretty much jack-of-all trades, but have their specialties. Linda and Jun are good snipers, Jorge was a heavy weapons specialist and there were Spartans who were used as pilots. As for black ops, there are certain teams who do that. Grey and Black Teams for the Spartan-IIs and the Headhunters for the S-IIIs were mostly black-ops. For armor, they can swap out armor as implied by the Armory.

four words:

Jack. Of. All. Trades.

Spartans, they are not like other soldiers.Few and expensive, though some are specialized for certain tasks, they are basically a walking tank and are professionals at every weapon, vehicle, and task.

A jack of all trades…

Each piece of armor has its own reason for being developed canonically. In game, though, they do not have additional abilities to help you.Theyre there for diversity among people’s Spartans and are collectables

I hope this answers your question.

By the way,I support our troops

Not really. Outside of Multiplayer, one short story, Halo Lolgends, and apparently Noble Team, Armor perms is something that’s kind of nonexistent.

In the Books all of the Spartan IIs wore identical Mjolnir armor, few could actually tell them apart. Though in Halo Legends, some characters were seen in EVA, EOD, and CQB, mind you, Halo Legends is also a joke.

And Spartan IIIs (of which there were about 1000 total, almost every single one having died), all wore SPI in Ghosts of Onyx. Again, completely matching, unmodified armor. (Though Headhunters shows 2 S-IIIs in apparently customized mjolnir)

So you gotta ask yourself. If Noble Team, the 2 Headhunters, and 3 Spartans in Legends are the only Spartans to ever wear nonbasic armor in any Halo media, why in the hell does it apparently exist in Canon?

Armor Perms are, and should ALWAY only ever be a Multiplayer feature. I’m sorry to have to say this but there were only around 30 Spartan IIs that survived to even get to wear Mk V. And the only Spartan IIIs to survive past their initial Suicide runs were Noble Team and the Onyx group. There is no way, NO WAY, the military wasted MORE time and money on armor modifications for 30 people after already producing Mjolnir. Much less the suicide soldiers meant to go out on one mission, and give their lives for the greater good.

That should stay in Multiplayer. Where it makes sense.

Oh, also, before Halo Legends and Noble Team, every single Spartan wore Green. EVERY SINGLE ONE. Rainbow armor is also a change that doesn’t make any friggin sense.

ahem…
spartans were originally created to fight the human rebels, they can be modified for all types of missions…recon, sniping, blowing -Yoink- up…the list continues Because they can do everything. They do things that the other soldiers can’t.

I remember back in the First Strike Halo novel, Chief talked about how he’s trained on a few things. Also We all know Linda 058 is a very skilled sniper.

I wouldn’t say that, Jack of all trades may say a lot about spartans, but they’re still soldiers, some are highly trained in some areas than others, like snipers, comm techs, bomb techs, vehicle mechanics, and the list goes on, even if the normal life span of a human being is 200 to 300 years, it would be very hard to learn every last job, even in today’s military, and in a time that human race have traveled to the starts, the list of 100+ jobs in each branch, just doubled, and not all MOS training takes 3 months, some can go any where from a month of training, to a few years. Spartans are jack of all trades when it comes to combat, weapons, and staying alive, but they’re spec ops soldiers, and spec ops soldiers do have a set MOS they are trained for.

343 has said multiple times that Legends and the books are all canon to the main halo universe and just because you dont like the fact that they are does not mean other wise .

also it was not only the military that did permutations to the spartan amrors.
groups outside of ONI did so under contract or for research and for other reasons…
most armor made was never utilized by the spartan but we get to use it in reach and halo 3.
also in Legends the package, chief is not wearing is halo 1 armor but instead is wearing the Mark IV armor ( with visuals changed to it to fit with legends)

so even chief has been wearing permutations in other media, not just the spartans that you made mention of
