Types of Playing Styles

So I have been playing a lot more recently and better. I still have the occasional bad game but I’ve been able to keep my k/d around 1.0 the past few days. It could be due to the change in my control sensitivity (went from 6 sensitivity and 2 acceleration to 3/4 with a 3 acceleration), but I also have changed how I play. I used to be good enough that I could lead a team and rack up kills through sheer dominance. As I learned over the first few months, I have no where near the skill to do that anymore. Recently, I believe I’ve been playing more of a support role for teams. If I see an enemy at a distance heading to where I think my team is, I try to get a couple shots on them before they get around a corner or behind cover. If I see a few X’s from my team’s deaths I try to get in the area quickly to finish off any enemy that has a one or two shot left. I usually end up with a ton of assists for the most part even if I can’t land some kills. This brought up a question for me considering I don’t really watch pro gamers or whatever, but it seems like most players on a team have a fairly designated assignment or role. What types of roles or play styles do you think there are in halo?

I am thoroughly a support player. Which why solo slayer kinda sucks for me.

I really miss playing with friends online and my wife split screen :frowning:

I believe a lot of these are indeed part of a team.
The guy who camps.
The guy who sprints and charges everything.
The guy who nade spam.
The guy that goes for the unprotected base in warzone and caps by himself.
The try hard/guy whos carrying the team.
The mic group.
The guy that drives around in a scout hog within the first 4 minutes of a game.
The guy that snipes in center base.
The guy whos a sacrificial lamb to get his team moving.
The guy who only uses AR.
The guy who only uses BR/Mag.
The guy that takes a fuelrod to the enemy core.
The guy who just runs people over with a ghost.
The guy who betrays you for a powerweapon.
The guy who is afk.
The guy who can’t aim and its an achievement if he can get 2 kills by the end of the game (one of my friends).
The guy who only goes for bosses.
The guy who only goes for bases.

My 4 man team are combination of assault and support roles

  1. Main assault- Shoots at everything, general gets the most kills, acts as defense for objective games (Me)
  2. Backup assault/ support- Gets lots of kills but will focus on objective over kills
  3. Main support/ backup assault- Will rush objectives but kills are still excepted for scoring purposes and defense
  4. Strictly support- Does anything to backup the other players such as rush objective or driving vehicles, gets more assists than kills

Halo is very interesting when it comes to roles. There are your generic roles, Slayer, Support, and objective. You also have specialization roles with each weapon, who’s the best on the team with the BR/Sniper/etc on that certain map. Roles change from map to map and gametype to gametype. You also sometimes want a roamer, a person who is on there own, but is aware of their surrounds and tries and flank the opposing team. You don’t want your team all in the same place, since you yourself can be flanked by the opposing team. Halo is a great strategic chess game.

I feel you. I had a 4 game win streak last night in platinum rank which is unheard of for me because I had some solid teammates. The ones I lost had a lot of teammates running around trying to spartan charge people or just general lack of awareness aka me getting killed by a scattershot and a teammate attempting to charge said scattershot.

Now I’ve never betrayed for a power weapon. However I did feel like a huge -Yoink- last night because I had a perfect snipe shot and a teammate stepped in front and I melee’d in frustration. I didn’t consider that my shot knocked his shields down and I killed him. That will forever scar my soul.

I’m definitely 4. I don’t do objective too often, but I’ll rush in for a flag cap or to break a stronghold takeover at the expense of a death because I know I can’t consistently be an offensive force.

The support roles are very important, we generally have a very hard time if we aren’t playing with our #4 guy.

I see if maybe once every 5 games and usually its from a new guy on btb who needs it to get some kills.

It’s crazy how important of an aspect it is for a W in a match, but it doesn’t seem like many people like to take that role since there isn’t much “glory” (ie. crazy k/d)

I don’t think I’ve ever had that happen to me HOWEVER I’ve gotten plenty of the spartan charge bump off the map numerous times and many outside of warzone. Warzone I don’t mind as much more of a LOL you -Yoink- kind of thing and then be on my way.

You’re welcome.

I’m the run and gun type player. It’s hard to transition from FFA style play to team-based cause I want to run around as fast as I can and get as many kills as I can.

Guilty.

I try to play depending on how my team plays. Calling out is huge whenever i get a team that calls out and we work as one unit we destroy.
I teamed up with some guys in Arena once and we were cleaning house the most assists i had in a game was 18. The team quickly fell apart though then their friends started joining the party chat and everyone stopped calling out and doing bad lol.
I have not accepted an invite to a game from them since.

I have to learn how to stay alive and not challenge so much though. that is one of my biggest problems.

My biggest struggles are when someone outsmarts me and makes me look dumb when I have one shot left on them. Or they try to outsmart me and I know what they are going to do but their friend joins the battle before I’m about to lay the final blow. I don’t do callouts because have zero clue how to make them. I don’t know the maps well enough. I usually don’t know what my teammates mean when they make callouts minus the “one shot left” or whatever it is for an enemy with one hit left. I definitely don’t mark the time when power weapons are picked up. I’m doing good enough trying to focus on not dying.

It tells you the callouts under the radar and power ups come up 2 minutes after pickup.

Well I think I need to take a shower because I feel extra scrubby right now lol. At least I know now.

There are definitely different types of players and play styles that benefit a Team. The trick is just finding what you enjoy doing and do it!

This is what I see most of the time in Warzone, and you will usually find all of these types of players. Which is probably why I laughed after reading this.

In my opinion this is how a team should work and is usually only successful if you have a Fireteam, and is great for Arena.

And no worries about the Callouts Capt., I suck at them too, though I try.

I mean, someone has to. The defending team will be emboldened and leave the base if not for the continual hurling of bodies inside.
