So I would love to see the return of the beam rifle that’s seen in Halo 2, 3, and 5 to appear in Halo Infinite because it would be a good idea to use it in Halo Infinite and perhaps it would most certainly be very cool to see the Jackals of the Banished wielding a beam rifle. Now as I still remember hearing about weapons in Halo Infinite going to get upgrades, perhaps an example of upgrading the beam rifle is increasing the amount of shots the beam rifle gets from 10 (like how it is in Halo 5: Guardians) to 18 (like how it is in Halo 2) and a further upgrade can increase the shots to 20 (like how it is in Halo 3).
Unless it gets a significant overhaul in terms of how it functions I rather not see any Beam Rifle of any type return in Infinite. The beam rifle has never been more than a purple sniper rifle in any of the games its been in.
The only beam rifle I would be okay with seeing return in some capacity would be the Type 50 Delta, though it would also require some design changes to work as a normal sandbox weapon.
I’d like to see it make a return as well. The Beam Rifle looks and sounds cool.

I disagree. The Beam Rifle does not require reloading. So if you pace your shots correctly, you never have to de-scope. Additionally, you can quick-fire two shots. It overheats your weapon (for balance), but you cannot fire two successive shots as quickly with a Sniper. This makes bodyshots more of a viable option in a pinch.
I’m not suggesting the Sniper is inferior, but rather pointing out the reasons why the Beam Rifle is more than a purple Sniper. I get the similarities between the two, but the differences are enough to allow some people to play better with one over the other.

While I agree that the Beam Rifle is different from the Sniper, those differences are not enough to change the fact that the weapons are literally interchangeable in any meaningful situation. You could replace the snipers with beam rifles on the Pit and the map would play the exact same. It’s in a similar clash as the BR and Carbine, the differences between the guns are so minute that it’s entirely redundant to even have two different guns.
I’m almost entirely certain that the beam rifle is gone, which is a good thing, because Halo Infinite is shaping up to have a very diverse sandbox. Given the scale of the game though, I’m sure we’re going to be seeing a long-range weapon for the Banished to be using in Halo infinite, which may well be the Stalker Rifle, though it may actually be a mid point between the Beam Rifle and Carbine, seeing as it’s visually very similar to the og carbine, but we’ve already seen the pulse carbine in gameplay. Quinn over at 343 has said some very promising things about the game’s sandbox so I’m curious to see how this gun is going to perform.
Looking at the stalker rifle, where the carbine’s magazine was located, there instead seems to be a scope. If that’s the case, then we’re looking at another battery operated banished weapon which I personally find exciting because that further pushes the boundary between human and alien weapons. This weapon has vents, which leads me to believe it may have a charging mechanic or possibly a venting mechanic tied to it similar to the Banished Ravager.
The Ravager draws a lot of parallels to venting the heat of Plasma Repeater in Reach, which while I found that gun incredibly redundant, that reload mechanic was very interesting and I’m glad it’s returning. From what we’ve seen of the ravager, the heat builds up and doesn’t seem to dissipate, meaning players either vent early or deal with the overheating animation, which is unique and interesting for the weapon. It’s damage output (and maybe tracking?) seems ridiculous though, I wonder how that’s going to pan out in PvP.
I’m thinking this Stalker Rifle we see may be a longer range weapon that has a charge and then release mechanic similar to the railgun, or the Linear Fusion Rifles from Destiny. This is all speculation, it may well just be a battery operated gun as well, but all those vents have me wondering. Either the charge system, or I bet we’ll be able to dissipate heat similar to the Ravager and Repeater. This game’s sandbox has me so excited I’m actually willing to overlook my personal problems with movement mechanics because damn, these guns look fun to shoot. Crossing my fingers we see the Brute Shot return, specifically the Halo 3 one, as I live for those rocket jumps.

None of those differences amount to much on their own. While battery/overheat mechanics can contribute to making a unique weapon, but you need more to really have a weapon carve out its own unique space. The Beam rifle has a great aesthetic and that’s about it, I only wish that it could get enough of a gameplay redesign to come out from underneath the sniper rifle’s shadow.
I’m also generally happy to give new weapons a chance rather retaining so many redundant weapons that failed to really expand the sandbox.
