I’ve had everything unlocked for ages. I’m standing on 80k+ because I hardly buy req packs anymore.
But my friend, who’s only sr24, is still struggling to get some of the better weapons due to barely playing. So why is it only possible to give him reqs as a PURCHASE (as in using real money to buy a giftable gold pack) but not with points?
Balance issues? Please, it’s either he gets 80k to use on things he needs versus me having 80k and using it on things i already have…
This is the type of balance struggle we get for a game that heavily focuses on a RNG micro-transaction system
Still better than Gears 4 and Forza 7, but still. I hate this trend Microsoft is setting with exclusives.
Players do not need REQ’s to play Arena nor do they impact the gameplay there. That is an easy place for inexperienced or low level players to improve their REQ bank. Also if you would like to gift your friend items then you can do it in game, get the REQ and then just get rid of it for them, or get a vehicle and drive while they shoot. There are plenty of ways you can assist your friend with REQ’s while not being able to gift points or packs.
Whether we like to admit it or not this can and would be exploited. That’s why it hasn’t and won’t be an option. There are those of us who would gladly give our points and packs away, but there are also those who would do it for money. It would be too easy.

Giving out Gold and Platinum packs are noble in and of itself, and I would love to help the lower-level players get the nice stuff early. Just don’t overwhelm me with messages or anything of that matter.
But It’s a real shame that some may consider exploiting and ruining the charitable aspects of this concept for their own gain. :\
They won’t allow gift with points because it would create a black market for req packs pretty much. You would see players offering to gift stuff for money to their pay pal or what ever. Then when and if they don’t deliver people would complain to 343 and then the person selling could/would blame 343’s servers “lost them” and it would create one big headache really.
The req system is designed in a way to keep people , that dont want to pay, playing the game for an extended amount of time. If i have a friend that just gets Halo 5 and i gift him a couple hundred gold packs with all the req i saved up he doesnt have to play as long as we all did to unlock everything.

Because gifting things would points would immediately render the REQ system useless.
Sure, it starts with you gifting your extra points to your friends, but 80k in itself is a lot. That’s 8 Gold packs or 16 Silver packs.
Now imagine those people who have hundreds of thousands of REQ points. Or millions of points. I haven’t played in months and I’m sitting on 200k with the REQ system completed. All they have to do is to make a “generous donation” here and there and boom, pretty much every player have a very decent supply of REQs, no one would even think about buying them because they can go to the top 1%, get free REQ points, and get more REQs than they ever need.

That’s is not that different than people spending money on, say, twenty packs at a time.
There are people here who’ve admitted to spending $300+ after the game came out.

Quoting this part because it’s the more important bit.
They are not needed, true, but do you want cool armor, visors, poses or assassinations? Welp, enjoy digging through the REQ system to unlock them piece by piece. It also doesnt help the reason that I brought this up is because me and my friends prefer playing warzone because (while it has certainly gotten better) BTB is not as good in 5 as it was in prior games.

Unfortunately this is this the most logical reason. But I feel there are ways to work around that to make it easier to prevent that kind of thing. Such as a friend youre gifting must’ve been on your friend list for atleast a month or you have to be a certain SR to give/receive points. A PSA of “dont gift REQs to strangers” could easily be used to prevent backlash.
Since I imagine that would be a very rare issue anyway. Has there been reports of people paying for that sparta armor?

Oh yes.
Like Plastic Hassle linked above, this is something that was considered and explored with -Yoink!- and likely legal and decided against for very, very good reasons.

Yeah, but they’re paying for those packs with real money, not with in game points.
In-game points are an infinite renewable resource that’s easier to get and doesn’t benefit the company how much is being spent. Money is not renewable, no one can feasibly spend enough to pull that same effect, and even if they can, Microsoft/343i is getting all the money anyway, someone is paying for it. It doesn’t matter who actually gets the pack after that point.
Considering the only real sense of progression and unlocks in H5 comes from the REQ system, I’m glad RP cannot be gifted. If a tenured spartan gave their horde of RP to a new spartan, that spartan would have little motivation to stay.
To many, the long grind of unlocking items is fun and keeps them motivated to come back.
