And its also the most basic of matchmaking that 343 are for some reason unable to fix. It was here at launch, and unbelievably, its still here.
Firstly, being matched up against teams. Definitely the most unfair part of the ranking system. We are all aware that the chances are the team is going to be good, especially at higher level. I’m only at Platinum 5 and I’m already facing teams every other game, obviously getting beat most of the time. There are enough teams searching for games at any one time to matched up against each other, surely. I dread to know whats its like trying to play at Onyx. This needs to be fixed as soon as possible (probably wouldnt be hard to).
And secondly, which ranks you get matched against. I am at mid to higher level Platinum atm. Do I want to be up against high level Diamonds and Onyxs? No, obviously not. I’ve heard that it has something to do with “trueskill” or something, but clearly that shouldnt be the case when these people are better than me (hence the higher rank. Obviously 343). I dont mind being matched up against a few ranks either side of my own, but any more is just unfair. It doesnt just happen against me though, I occasionally get matched up against bad people. Still not good though either way.
I know I’m not the first one to bring this up, and I’m pretty sure almost every agrees with me, especially the being matched up against teams part. Get it sorted 343.
Higher rank does not necessarily mean they are always better then you, its easy to boost a friends account. Since players can go down a rank type a player could get carried to diamond but have the skill level of a plat yet they will never drop to plat. Another reason why you may face higher ranks is that the game keeps testing you, you will play people of higher rank, you could just win against platinum’s but that would do you no good when you do face off against diamonds and onyxs when you finally do rank up.

Yeah I’m happy to play a rank thats a bit higher than me, thats no worries. But its when they are a considerably higher rank than me and I get matched up against them, when they are Onyxs for example, thats when it gets stupid
