…the better man leaves. The lesser man is left respawning. And that’s Halo."
Probably the best way to describe Halo multiplayer. A competitive playing field. This was in the Halo Reach ViDoc “Carnage Carnival” in case if anyone is wondering.
This phrase can be used throughout all of Halo MP since CE. But where in Halo MP does this phrase go a little overboard and the better player(s) not only wins but embarrasses the lesser player(s)?
In a nonTrueskill environment.
I’ve seen games where one team beats the other 50-0 in Team Slayer and 75-0 in Squad Slayer back in Reach. Do you think that’s fun for the losing player no matter much they say “they play for fun.” It’s not fun to lose at anything especially that bad.
We all know Trueskill is in. Frankie confirmed it. There are a couple of ways they can handle it. One is they can have a split of Ranked and Social playlists. The second is have all playlists contain Trueskill in them so it doesn’t “split” the community according to some people here. IMO both(and this most likely will happen) should have a visible Trueskill rank to everybody.
I always hope there is some hope that this is seen. but I had a cool idea called officers league. where the only way to get in was achieving a certain skill and once inside the playlist you can choose unranked or ranked matches and then if your skill falls you wil be removed from officers league until it comes back up
Its definatly not fun to lose like that with no chance at winning because when that did happen the losing team was more then likly spawn camped with no chance to move.
Anyways we’ll see how well the true skill system works heres to hoping its great.
If a TrueSkill System was implemented in ALL the playlists i would be a little upset
I’m a really competitive player but i don’t ALWAYS want to play competitive games, some times i just want to relax having fun with friends maybe playing BTB or something…but now even BTB would be frustrating!

this and if its anything like halo 3s i will never be able to use specializations (i play for fun a lot more than seriously) yet when i do play seriously with friends or just was a serious match im usually at the top of the leaderboards
> (i play for fun a lot more than seriously)
So do I. Playing seriously/“tryharding” is fun to me
And the better men are the ones who boost/host boot by that logic. And even though you can go +20 or so and your team makes you lose you’ll still be the worse player because you lost, and then you have to suffer the consequences of a bad ranking system, just because your team.

Solution: Play with friends if you go in ranked.
Don’t know where you got the boosting/host booting logic from

You’re talking about the ranking system, are you not? I’m talking about Halo 3, you say you play competitively, so do you like getting kicked offline in the high 40’s in Halo 3? (I got hit offline only a couple months ago, and I was only on a 45) Or when you’re only 30 yet you get matched up with someone boosting an account that will go up 3 times faster because of it? And you can’t always play with friends, not everybody has friends on 24/7.

thats still playing seriously not the same as playing for fun and not caring if you lose or if your completely destroyed
Well Halo 4 isn’t using 1-50. Also no friends? Play social.

Fun is subjective. Everybody’e definition is different. You can’t say that I am not having fun when I really am having fun.
It’s funny cause he said that in Reach. There’s bloom in Reach, meaning that’s not true. Whoaahhh?@!?!
Oh wait, there’s bloom in Halo 4?!?
Facepalm

Snipers/Swat/MLG and others have remained ranked only, having to play by yourself shouldn’t force you to play a playlist that you don’t want to.

Which I find fun…
That used to be Halo multiplayer OP, now its so diluted with gimmicks and random game systems in the default I would not say “Two men enter, the better man wins” can be applied to Halo anymore. Now its just a random and chaotic multiplayer experience with flavor of the month FPS mechanics from other games, the opposite of the strategic skill-based shooter it started out as.

Because having extra ammo, or extra sprint is really a game changer, because having an extra grenade makes it easier for someone to out BR you. These ‘gimmicks’ change none of the actual gameplay. If you and your team are as good as you think you are, you will still win against people that are actually worse than you, these additions aren’t doing anything to help someone of less skill beat you.
