Two Extremes of Ranking Systems

Hey guys. I’ve noticed a lot of people that are disappointed about hitting max rank so quickly. Remember in Reach when people complained that Max Rank took way too long? Now we’re at the other end of the rainbow with people hitting Max rank in just months. I haven’t maxed yet, but I know a lot have. I will max out eventually, and when I do, there will be no reward for doing things. Unless 343 has secretly put counters on xp after max rank in case they raise it (I doubt it), people will be losing incentive to play. I’m a firm believer that a game should be able to hook you on gameplay, but incentives sweeten the pot a whole lot more. So what do you prefer, a short and sweet, a near-impossible, or inbetween? I think it would be cool for one thing if they actually put in a skill based rank that meant something, but I’m talking about progression ranking right now. I think it would be better to have a max rank that is nearly impossible to achieve. Or maybe even when someone is about to hit “max rank” a new rank is added? Something in the middle would be preferable, but these aren’t too bad either. Your thoughts?

Extremely long progressive rank systems are pointless because all it means is you played the game for a long time.

I’d rather just have all content unlocked right off the start.

The fact that weapons and perks are tied to rank in this game, or how armor was tied to rank in reach, annoys me. The former is more significant because they actually affect gameplay.

Yeah, the weapons aren’t too big of a deal since you get them all fairly quickly, but the emblems really bug me. Armor should be based off of achievements like in 3. I know progression systems don’t mean much at all, but they are a fun distraction. But man, racing to 50 in Halo 3 was pretty -yoink!- good!
