Twitch drops FOMO

Other games i get. But this…but this game…I don’t understand the people who have fomo in this game. Every time i log in i see a lame weekly reward that is another grey piece of armor, another red/tan color, or another red, yellow, black visor. What are you afraid of missing exactly? That “remember reach” vehicle emblem? Yall really need 6 black visors and 8 of the color red for the armor? Common yall.

Hey just a reminder this was once said about Halo Infinite and I’m paraphrasing here because I can’t remember who it was that said: “Everything in Halo Infinite can be earned, just by playing the game”.

SpongeBob Narrator:Three Months later…

I want to add that not everyone suffers from FOMO and I believe that you age out of it because when you have other stuff going on in life (not saying anyone who has FOMO doesn’t) things like a badge just doesn’t matter as much.

I can remember playing Halo 3 and wanting everything and when ODST dropped along with vidmaster achievements to be able to get the Recon helmet, I felt so much pressure that I must have it. And I did with very much help from the Halo community. I remember this sense that since some achievements required a group effort that the community really came to together and seemed like everyone was very helpful for about the first month.
It was one of the best times for Halo.

Why do I get the vibe that the Halo Community cares more about cosmetics than just enjoying the game?
I don’t get people who only play or watch to get cosmetics.

No matter how many new twitch drops or new things I unlock, I still go back to the Funko blue and yellow, pineapples hanging on the chest and clippy.

That’s the modern gaming industry. Use fomo to sell MTs and boost viewership in events to increase the brands value to attract sponsors. It’s not about the game, it’s about the highest possible revenue.

I know right, it’s sad if you ask me. See posts pop up all the time about “twitch drops” on reddit, discord and the forums. really?

is getting free skins really that exciting for having to watch others play the game? i bet people don’t even use the skins because they probably end up with loads and can’t decide what to use.

remember when customisation was simple and mtx, loot boxes, drops were not a thing? those were the days!

when you just had a simple spartan and were content with just that. i hate what modern cosmestics has done to gaming.

FOMO on worthless digital dress crap for watching people play an average video game. Hmmm.

I best say nothing more haha!

You literally do not have to watch it, just have the tab open and mute, that’s it, I have not watched a second of these streams lol. I would never bother if I actually had to watch the stream.

With this logic Bungie made Reach FOMO because they shut down the servers after 12 years and now I can unlock that right armour protection. That didn’t tell me that I had a limited amount of time to unlock this stuff! I bought the game FULL PRICE

tbh is it fomo? just have a notification on their channel, and when they’re live open a tab and afk there. last few drops I had it running on my PC and went on my day. true you might miss a few, but as I’ve seen and has been said here, they’re redoing drops.

Fomo would be more in line to what @lokmost with Reach, or the coating for reaching Sr152 on 5 if they shut the servers down, or not having game pass and missing out on those skins (which is essentially green lol)

Maybe I could answer that.

The reason I’m a Halo fan is partly because of the customisation in Halo Reach. It was the first time I could actually make my own character in a game, and since it was a suit of armour I could imagine myself inside that armour. Furthermore, I felt I was able to exactly portray myself with the armour due to all the customisation options.

For people like myself, whilst we definitely enjoy the way the game plays, we like being able to experience it with a character that represents ourselves. You might not get that, but that’s fine honestly.

Because people used to just earn the cosmetics then make the spartan they want. Now they can’t even choose their favorite colors they might have used since Halo 3. This is the kinda criticism you will get when you take a game that had 100% earnable content and monetize it and even expand on the normal monetization of it. A lot of games used to run on playing = earning cool stuff so Halo suddenly ripping it away will have these responses.

All that aside though, in its current state if you were looking to play for enjoyment and you liked the IP already then the game still is lacking compared to previous versions in both quality and features. Plus if you aren’t a fan of the IP and want to play a game for fun then there are better games out there.

Twitch drops is a weird place to draw the line though

To be fair the weekly challenges aren’t so much fear of missing out, as fear of another duplicate. (Usually a shop item in a slightly different shade).

Most probably don’t actually watch the streams and just let them run in the background muted for the drops.
