After thinking about what this Halo TV show could be about I have an idea.
What if the story takes place after Infinite and follows John 117?
Now hear me out, maybe at the end of Infinite Cortana is not nessisarly defeated. Just pushed back. She might not be as powerful but still has the loyalty of the old Covenant and no longer has access to the guardians. But what if at the end of Infinite the Flood return and we get an AWESOME GRUSESOME Halo TV action series that would be way more badass than the Walking Dead, trying to restore order in the galaxy with John at the helm with blue team (maybe have them sit out for Infinite and bring them to the TV show).
This TV show is supposed to be parallel to game of thrones and is the networks most ambitious project yet. I have high standards.
I understand that there are high standards, I have my own as well. but there’s one major thing to consider, the flood in a live action show, it just won’t happen. Imagine the amount of money it would take to get that going, it’s the same reason Star Wars lacks aliens now a days, and why zombies aren’t as present in the walking dead. Makeup is a -word I won’t use- to deal with on big tv/movie sets, and the flood isn’t as easy as -just put some makeup on him and it’ll do. I don’t need to describe the floods look, we all know it would be over the top for a live action show. My hope is we get stuff based around the rebel factions fighting the UNSC, ODSTs sent to fight off rebels who threaten to join Cortana. There’s just a huge lack of visual media for the rebels in halo, reach teased us, but never brought them in. All in all, I’d die for the flood, or even the covenant to have a big presence, but it just doesn’t seem plausible… unless they use CGI, but come on, we don’t want that, it’s live action for a reason.

I thought of this as well, it just seems like a cop out IMHO. Game of thrones has dragons and super cool FX effects I feel like we could get some flood in this show some how. Microsoft canceled the movie because FOX wasn’t being ambitious enough. Let that sink in… at least we know Microsoft is willing the throw the money and isn’t afraid to say no if it’s not done right. This is Microsoft’s biggest IP I feel like people tend to forget Halo has grossed BILLIONS.
We had a freaking movie canceled on us, cmon 343 throw us a huge bone and -Yoink- around and take over the TV industry.
Yeah flood won’rt be an issue. They do mixed media using live action with CGI on top. With Halo Infinite going to ne at least 4K the CGI models will already have been built and due to using in multiple media formats cost shared across projects.
Can#t wait for TV show as long as it has NO trace of Nightfall because that was pish

Game of Thrones’s makeup crew has money funneled into their offices. I don’t think Microsoft would hesitate to finance their baby’s first network show as well as they possibly can.

> Not going to lie, if the majority of Halo content is Chief dominated for the foreseeable future I’m going to be disappointed.
Have to agree we have such a rich universe already and as the novels have shown we don’t need Chief to drive the story. WE have covenant, forerunners, flood all as alien enemies but storywise we have one of the best dark arts, secretive enemies, I mean, partners, bosses in ONI. The skullduggery is ripe and I really hope this is where the TV series goes with Halsey at the center.

Game of Thrones didn’t start going heavy on the VFX until a few seasons in, when it had become established as a popular show that was confident in its ability to bring in viewers and revenue. I’m talking specifically CGI characters, like the dragons. They got teased one time in season 1, and were tiny, and were on screen for seconds. Even in season 2, they were in a box most of the time. It’s only in GoT later seasons that the dragons and the white walkers and their army got more screen time; likely because the shows increased popularity got it an increased budget.
A Halo TV show is already going to be guaranteed to devote alot of its budget to environmental VFX; how else would you portray space and alien worlds? Given that it’s a first venture, even if the budget is high, they wouldn’t waste too much more on CG before seeing the viewing numbers. If the show ends up being a flop, heavy CH towards showing aliens and Flood could just end up being a waste of money.
So yeah, going light on VFX in a show’s first season isn’t a cop out. It’s a business strategy. And looking quickly into the fall of the Halo movie, it wasn’t because of Fox’s lack of ambition. It was because Microsoft wanted too much control, had too high expectations, and wanted too much of the revenue. Microsoft wasn’t willing to take a cut on their part of the deal to keep production afloat, and so Fox and Universal (who were working as partners in producing the Halo movie) walked away. Microsoft went into the unfamiliar territory of Hollywood swinging a big stick, but ultimate got played by Hollywood and didn’t understand how Tinseltown worked.

What you said is partly true. Yeah Microsoft came in like raging bull in a China chop, and yet they did manage to strike the deal with Universal and Fox. It wasn’t Microsoft’s fault it, at the end of the day it was because of Universal. Microsoft wanted more creative control and I don’t blame them it’s their baby and for once I’ll actually take Microsoft’s side. They threw 130 million plus for the budget. Not accounted for inflation (2006). Microsoft believes in Halo and Halo doesn’t deserve a copout focusing on humans. Halo has never been about the humans. “Basically, the politics between Fox and Universal crashed the movie,” Blomkamp

Depending on what source you got the story from, the writer will point fault at a different corporate entity. But at the end of the day, one fact is clear no matter the source: Microsoft said no to taking less of the profit, pushed the extra costs onto Fox/Universal, and Fox/Universal weren’t having it. Disagreement with writers/directors and the producers is common in Hollywood, and something I’m sure Blomkamp was well aware of and used to handling. But Microsoft was not used to Hollywood, overplayed their hand, and busted out. Besides, who knows is Blomkamps opinion is even all that credible. He had a vision for the movie that at the very least Fox didn’t like; who knows if Microsoft liked his work. All Blomkamp can say is that he “thinks” Bungie would have liked it. But even he doesn’t know.
We can point fingers all day honestly I just want some solid Halo content man. Halo such a deep lore evem
betfer than Star Wass IMHO and just want it to succeed!
