TV series within the timeline and Cortana’s role
A while ago we got casting for some of the major characters in the TV series, mainly Chief along with Halsey and Cortana. Pablo Schreiber was cast as Chief and Natascha McElhone will play both Halsey and Cortana. The show has been confirmed to take place during the Human-Covenant War, though when is currently unknown. Announcing that Cortana is in the show is making many wonder when the show is set. Cortana was created in 2549, though she and Chief didn’t meet until August 28, 2552. According to the president of Showtime, the series will respect and not violate the canon, which is great to hear. However, this still puts into question Cortana’s role. I think it’ll be like these these 2 situations. Either Both Chief and Cortana never meet in the show and the series is set at least in 2549, and will go until around 2552. The other thing I can see is that the series is essentially a flashback, thus not breaking the canon of the 2 meeting prior then their encounter in TFOR. I can see the latter being the case, and hell, it could be used as to show Cortana choosing John to be her Spartan for Operation: RED FLAG. What’d you think, how do you think they’ll include Cortana into the story of the show and respect the canon?
I’m hoping for a flashback-style of story telling. Perhaps do it while she is picking her courier for Operation Red Flag, or even when she is reading into John’s files while aboard the POA during its final shake down. Halo Canon dropped a video recently about this actually, though I assume you’ve seen it or heard about it.
Honestly, I’m just glad to hear more about the series. It feels like nothing is happening with it (obviously that’s not the case, but the lack of news updates has been getting to me).
I’m torn between wanting another adaption of The Fall of Reach (but a different take on the same story) and something entirely new. Naturally, with Cortana involved, we’re looking at a story set towards the end of the war- or not. It’s possible the story will span many years, using flashbacks or chronologically. For all we know Cortana only appears in the final episode.
Either way, I’m taking the president of Showtime’s statement with a huge grain of salt. Just looking at the cast, you can already tell the show is going to be different from it’s source material (in casting new Spartans alongside chief instead of Blue Team) and also Soren. I just hope the show stands on its own as a good piece of television, even if it strays a little here and there. I’ll be treating it as an adaption universe rather than part of the same universe.

Would be interesting if they do jumps by years in between the episodes. Though they have confirmed it’ll be a new story and not yet another adaptation of TFOR. Totally see your skepticism with his comments and I can actually agree with you on that. However, with the Spartans, I wouldn’t be concerned. Members were fluctuating and switching out a ton of the time. But yeah, if they’re gonna change things I hope they say this show is merely an adaptation and not part of the official canon.

Yeah I could go with large time gaps.
On the other matter, I’m pretty sure they’ll include TFORish flashbacks throughout the show to establish the John-Halsey-Cortana relationship. How could you not show or delve into John’s childhood in a show like this. With it being for a new audience and all
I didn’t even know that there was a tv show happening I’ve been busy with life
