Tutorial for Complete Newbies?

Hi!

I just bought my very first Halo game in the series and it happens to be Halo 4. I’ve never played a Halo game before, but I figured it would be good to try something new. Anyhow, being that this is my first game in the franchise, I have absolutely no clue how to play it. Are there any tutorials in the game that could help me to figure everything out? If not, what is the best way to learn the controls of the game?

Thank you for your time,

Katie

Use DMR, Camo, and Boltshot. Don’t rush, but shoot at everyone you see - This will get you going I guess.

Personally, I would suggest playing Campaign or Spartan Ops on a lower difficulty for some impromptu target practice. Trust me, it helps. I don’t think there’s any official tutorial, but this should get you started. The best teacher is experience, too, so you should also jump into some online matches. You may lose some, but it’s valuable practice.

As far as controls, check the options available to you and try each of the buttons in Campaign.

As far as playing the game, go through the Campaign on Normal (at the very least) and get some time in between Campaign and Spartan Ops for practice.

It’s a fairly simple, straightforward shooter so it shouldn’t take too long : )

@OP, Do NOT do this. You won’t make many friends.
If you like I could show you the ropes on Live, my GT is ‘xEcliptics’.

It’s definetly the easiest combo to get kills with in the game. I don’t see why she shouldn’t use it.

A newbie asking a question on how to get started? Oh man I feel sorry for you OP.

Ignore everyone on the forum basically. If you really want a tute add someone who offers their gamertag. Mines “mifkin” if you can’t find anyone else.

Aim for the head, aim high, shoot at the head, and did I mention the HEAD.
Drill that into your brain. Its in our nature and for some training to aim center mass.
If you drill it into your brain (no pun intended)you will do fine. Aim for the head.
Learn to strafe left and right or circle strafe. Other than that come on in the waters fine. Oh and AIM FOR THE HEAD!

Use the dmr four shot body one head. Mainly aim for the chest until the shield breaks. Patience helps a lot. Don’t be dumb and charge into a room lit up like a Christmas tree with red dots.

Your in luck though. This is the easiest halo by far. Dmr, boltshot, camo, jetpack, explosives, dexterity, resupply,. Seperate load out for personal ordinance.

Have you ever played an FPS before? The basics are the same. Memorize the controls, go through the single player mode to get used to them and practice all the different ways of killing your opponents(hopefully you’ll enjoy the story somewhat as well) and then play online to get more experience by playing other people. Make friends, shoot your friends in the face, and everyone has a good time.

Play the Campaign on either Easy or Normal, first. You’ll be exposing yourself to the narrative while at the same time gradually learning about the game’s mechanics.

It’s a perfect start.

Because some people don’t enjoy sitting in a corner invisible with an overpowered gun all game long.

First do not accept help from the people who posted their tags in this thread. If your going to learn you should find a mentor who can manage a 1.5 or above. See Halo 4 is the easiest Halo ever so if they have a 1.5 in this one odds are they are still above 1.2 in previous ones.

As for game play, grab the DMR go into match making. At your level you will face the worst Halo players there are. They basically run straight at you it gives you good practice aiming four shots into the chest and one in the head. Once you get that montion down then continue to up your k/d you’ll face better opponents. Then you can start working on things like jumping, ducking behind cover and strafing skills you won’t need against the lower class of Halo players.

Dont worry about strafing to much. In this halo it is almost completely useless. Aim assistance and no descoping make it easy. Fire first and don’t stop.

Implying that everyone sits in a corner camping with that combo is just wrong.

Katie, have a look at Nak3d Eli youtube channel, a video called ‘Noob to Pro’
Its shot in Halo Reach but is one of the best and most succint breakdowns of how to play Halo fundamentals thats around…

Are you new to first-person shooters or?

Don’t worry about all of the advice people are giving you about specific guns, for now.

Play the campaign and Spartan ops for now. You’ll naturally learn many of the mechanics by the time that you start playing the multiplayer. Play Big Team Infinity Slayer when you play online. There will be a lot of people and different ways to play.

Enjoy

1: Aim for the head, especially without/with low shields on the enemy.
2. Use the IN GAME loadouts until you unlock EVERYTHING. Use the DMR/Hologram loadout.
3. DMR is a noob’s weapon, but everyone uses it.
4. Boltshot is good if you are MEGA CQC or a camping noob.
5. Light Rifle is the MOST SKILLED WEAPON IN THE GAME. Use it only when you get comfortable with NON hitscan.
6. Carbine is weak but fast firing.
7. BR is intermediate.

Hope this helps!

Welcome to the forums and this (formerly in my opinion of multiplayer) great series.

Like many others, I would recommend playing the campaign first, since it gives you some introduction to the universe and gameplay. I would then move on to Spartan Ops and play cooperatively. Ask others for gameplay tips in games and watch how other people play.

Once you’re comfortable with the controls I would then start playing wargames/matchmaking. I would recommend either big team battle, sorry slayer, or the standard slayer playlist. Seeing as these are the two most basic gametypes available.

I would also recommend firing up forge and getting familiar with each of the maps by flying through them in the monitor/edit mode.

Feel free to message me about playing together or send me a friend request at my gamertag (same as forum name).
