I suddenly thought: Will turrets be completely useless in Halo 5? Admittedly, they always kinda sucked, the mobility loss was just too much of a loss even for the extra firepower, but in Halo 5 the difference is massively increased. Not only will it be hard to hit anyone, everyone else will be zipping all over the place, getting easy headshots/assassinations. Not to mention you’re the ultimate Ground Pound target. They need some sort of buff.
In short, how are 343 going to change third-person weapon mechanics to compensate for the increased player mobility?
I just think you should travel at normal speed but can’t sprint.
Huh. Well I never actually thought of this. Increase the speed it takes to turn when using them?
I’ve never really understood why detachable turrets (and the other ‘support weapons’) needed to be in third-person.
Why not keep it in first-person, keep the same movement speed, allow simple thruster pack, and disable the other SAs (including sprint)?
From there, support weapons could be balanced more like other weapons, rather than neuter the player (making H3’s already slow movement speed slower). For the UNSC turret , perhaps a “spin-up” time like Team Fortress 2 Heavy’s Minigun?
I also wonder if they will have SS elements. Hopefully they can balance them against the new movement options. Damage may have to be buffed up.
i thought you meant the shade turret at first. that things always been useless unless your an ai. really needs a major buff imo. as for normal turrets…idk. i wonder if they’ll be cut entirely with the focus on ‘mobility options’ now.
I don’t see why it would be a problem. thruster was in halo 4 and it never game me too much trouble. as for ground pound thats just a situational awareness thing. just don’t stand under people.

I think the problem is more to do with survivability. Even in previous titles, it wasn’t particularly smart to pick up a turret outside of Campaign. Even I could fourshot a turret user, and that’s saying something. Now, with thruster giving us extreme lateral movement, the reduced look sensitivity and player mobility when using one is a killer. I just think they need to be buffed in some way to make sure they retain some usefulness.

I’m with this guy. It never gave me a problem In IV. I also rarely used them.
The turrets were also not that much better in terms of firepower. Only catching someone by surprise would get you the kill.
To make turrets a more viable option in Halo 5 I’d suggest movement speed staying the same but disable sprint (excellent point made in a post above), an increase of firepower so it won’t be outgunned by an AR in CQC and maybe still allow thruster pack usage, though I’m not sure if that would work out.
What would also be pretty neat, but probably will never happen, is the ability to put it down on the ground after detatching it for increased accuracy.
Turrets will still mostly appear only in BTB. I mainly used them to damage/destroy vehicles driving/flying by.
Yes, turret guys won’t survive 1v1 at medium-long range, but it’s always been used more as support firepower when holding position etc.
