So pc controller aim assist and console aim assist are apparently different.
So I play on console, I can aim well but I was always curious of the aim assist talk so I tested my aim assist. Without going in too much detail here the only thing my aim assist done was make it slightly (slightly being very tiny) harder to pull of the target and that’s it. Doesnt follow the player etc.
However pc players also said it was op and claimed it done all these extra things, so I looked into all the clips people have been using.
Some clips are just bs, theres no aim assist going on or anything but the creator is claiming it’s making him aim.
However other clips are showing someone standing still and getting a player to slightly move from side to side within the crosshair, in doing this you actually see the crosshair move and actually act like an auto aim. So I tested the same spot, weapon etc. And mine on console isnt doing it.
So there are a few things this could be…
People are making fake clips
This is old footage from the flight where AA was actually changed.
AA is actually different depending on the device you’re using.
This means everyone can be correct, pc could be seeing this strong aim assist while console is seeing a far weaker version. Or it’s a placebo effect and people are using it as an excuse.
I have no idea what videos you’ve seen, but in the past it was believed that higher fps could lead to a cleaner more consistent aim assist. But that was in MCC, and the series X can play on at a pretty high frame rate.
pc AA is no stronger on PC than on console, and on top of that PC users get no red reticle at all. But what does seem to be the case is FPS makes a difference on what little AA there is. On an xbox one 30fps, even with red reticle on, its a struggle to even land body shots. On PC controller (after alot of control setting tweaking) i can aim pretty well. but target tracking is still pretty hard and feel i need to be dead on or i lose the fight. AA overall is pretty weak even tho MnK users say its strong. Thing is I still reach for my mouse when i grab a sniper or skewr to get that pin point accuracy that u just cant get on controller.
AA is linked to connection to the servers and when you did your tests you had worse connections on console.
Coincidence, possibly, but still possible as I don’t have that cursor pull sometimes on PC as well. It’ll be there one moment, then gone the next. (Still with shields, as some mentioned AA going away without shields)
No. In customs I’m not trying to connect and have fine wired connection thankyou. I copied the clip exactly.
Dont go throwing insults about consoles having bad wifi. I could easily say from my experience PC have the worst connections across most games. But I’m not gonna generalize a platform because I dont play on it.
And no, just doing research into things. You should try it so you dont end up looking like an idiot when you claim console gets auto aim and how bullets curve lol
You do realize you’re being overly defensive, right?
I said in that message how I, on my PC, lose AA, also despite it being a wired connection. I didn’t even mention you using wifi.
The net code is bad currently and is causing issues beyond just losing AA. It includes problems like dying behind cover, hit registration issues, and shots/melees disappearing on death.
All independent of what platform is used or what internet connection is used. Please relax.
I’m a mouse & keyboard player so I’d like to ask you one question.
If you don’t touch your controller OR if you just walk and not look do you get aim assist?
I think that aim-assist only kicks in when the player is actively looking around. The clips of aim assist working when someone is not touching their controller could be caused by stick drift or really small deadzones.
That’s a bug. I can’t personally confirm that this fix works, but the next time you start the game make sure you start it by pushing a button on your controller instead of with the keyboard or mouse. I played with someone who had PC button prompts even though they were using a controller and this fixed it, but I forgot to ask them about aim-assist.
I believe what is happening more than anything is that the aim assist is just inconsistent.
To prevent the cheating of people using mnk and trying to get AA as well I believe they are turning the AA off as soon as the controller gets near the centre deadzones. This means that as you are trying to fine up your aim the AA turns off entirely and you lose the target.
This constant AA on/off experience I believe is very offputing. Playing with your deadzones on 0 on the aim stick I found did wonders for me.
To me making it so that you can’t change input mid match would be the best way to address this. Just kill the mouse completely if the controller was selected as input. To prevent people abusing the multi input advantage.
There are definitely different levels of aim assist though… for me I find the BR quite decent in the AA department (one of the guns I could sypathise with the mnk community with). The pistol and commando however have very noticeable AA range drop off.
you got that backwards. At least for all other halo AA, The “tracking” is strongest if you dont touch your movement at all. Once you make movement most of it drops off. So in clips u see AA strongly pulling side to side tracking, they are usually standing still. But standing still just to benefit from a slow tracking will just get you killed
Im not 100% sure how AA works in Infinite, but it does feel weaker than most titles. Aim feels connected to frame rate as well. I can never really test it out tho because it falls off on pc, and not only from the start screen thing mentioned. I noticed that sometimes in menus the button promps in the bottom of screen will switch randomly between kbm & controller buttons and may also be doing so in game. Pretty sure this causes the AA fall off as well.
Its easy to notice the AA fall off. Even with Infinites weaker AA, when its on aiming still feels alot smoother. When it falls off it feels super janky, like trying to drive a car with a loose steering wheal lol. i just learned to drop sensitivity when AA drops off.
