TU FEEDBACK: Play Co-Op Campaign and Firefight Without Requiring an HDD

Share your thoughts about playing Co-op Campaign and Firefight without requiring an HDD. Please note all posts created about this topic will be merged with this thread in an effort to keep relevant opinions in one place. Thank you for continuing to help us craft the best possible Halo: Reach experience!

Additional information: You can now play Co-Op Campaign and Firefight without requiring a HDD. After downloading the TU, this is possible in both your own lobby over LIVE or via system link, and on October 4th through Matchmaking.

Honestly I just came to say thanks.

My buddy has had to miss practically all of the campaign and firefight challenges, despite them being his favorite game modes. This will probably bring him back to Halo where the rest of us are.

For that, Thank You.

Out of curiosity (because my friend isn’t online to test this right now) can we use this to get firefight challenges via Firefight Doubles? I.E. can we create a party and go into Firefight Doubles Matchmaking right now or no?

Not that this affected me, but it just seems like a no brainer step in the right direction. The rest of the “updates” included though just seem like catering to whiners.

No. This is stated explicitly in the OP: You will have to wait until October 4th to use the MM playlists.

Just wanted to thank 343 for fixing this year-long bug.

It really shows how pathetically lazy Bungie is.

It was only a 2mb patch, Bungie should have had this working a long time ago.

Glad to see 343 taking control.

Bungie were not pathetically lazy.

343 are doing a great job, i give my thanks for to them but all that halo has become is due to Bungie

Why wouldnt you get a HDD anyway? in the long run, saves money on buying new hard drives, the update wasnt nessicary, but useful, yes

My friend, too, was outta the vs. Covie action. Now we can bond over the splattering all over the wall of the gory confetti that is the brain of a Grunt. You, 343, have strengthened a friendship.

I downloaded the TU, but I still can’t play in the Cooperative playlist. This has frustrated me for a while, since I would like to take advantage of all that Halo: Reach has to offer. Any suggestions on what to do now?

I read the post more carefully and now see that I will need to wait until Oct. 4th to use the Cooperative playlist in Matchmaking.

If you know anything about the way the Xbox was made and about the way the game was made it’d be more obvious but Bungie wasn’t “failing” to fix this because it wasn’t a bug. The game was programmed to check for a detected HDD before allowing access to Co-Op, Firefight Co-Op, or the Fileshare. Microsoft released the cheaper version of the slim with Flash memory. Understanding that the Xbox actually can’t run if the onboard memory isn’t present and understanding that the onboard memory is technically Flash media one has to assume Bungie, or Microsoft made this choice on purpose to limit the functionality of the game while running on consoles lacking the official Xbox 360 HDD. (A way to force sell a 130$ +160-170% production value piece of hardware depending on who you ask to it’s largest consumer base)

I am glad they finally decided to lift the restriction though.

I can see no difference as i have a HDD tv, and was playing halo on it before the TU, surely there can’t be that many non HDD tv’s around theses days. I don’t understand why 343 did’nt change the title screen to their own, seeing that they now have Halo. When i had another game, when they updated the title you could see the change start away, unlike the this one from 343.

HDD = Hard Disk Drive
HD = High Def

Thanks for this update! Now I can play co-op with more friends.

One additional question:
Before the TU, non-HDD players also could not use the File Share and upload/download content. Has this also been fixed?

i say no hard drive required

It seems fair:)

This situation really stinks. I just had to buy a new system b/c my old 360 died. By the way, the HD on my old 360 is tiny and I was already using a mem stick for storage. I opted for a new kinect model - without HD because that was what I could afford and I wanted to check out kinect technology.

I had no warning that I would not be able to play some olf games. That really stinks since many of the daily challenges are in firefight. Sure was shortsighted of game designers or MS.

Is the title update available now ?

It is, and has been since last Wednesday.

My friend and I are grateful for this update because we have been wanting to play Firefight and Campaign together for a while. I do have one question, can this also be applied to Firefight and Campaign within Matchmaking because he is still excluded from the matchmaking co-op playlists?

sounds good to me. why not.

Awesome.
