to impossible. I sometimes do very well, I’ll be first place for like 3 games in a row and then one bad game and my rank goes down. I’ve been struggling between levels 34 and 36 for a long time now. It’s getting annoying. Anyone have any tips for me?
I find I win a lot more often just because I have someone to talk to. Whether it be a friend or a random person you met through matchmaking. Played 2 games in a row on Solace Infinity Slayer. First game I lost by nearly 30 points. Second game I joined a bunch of friends, and we won by nearly 45 points, and I went 25/1.
I just think communication is key.
I agree with what was said above, but my input is that you’re eventually going to hit your own personal skill ceiling. It looks like, judging from what you’ve said, your overall rank in skill is about a 35 or 36. If you keep consistently performing the same over a certain span, you’ll almost stop ranking entirely, depending on the requirements for ranking (ie, objective playlists always prefer people playing objectives over those with High K/D). This will be your overall “rank” and it wont increase until you play better (Or boost it, but where’s the fun in that?)
While not as accurate as Halo 3 and not as brutal as Halo 2’s ranking systems, CSR is, like those, an aggregate score. It doesn’t accumulate with the amount of times you played. It takes your playing and averages it out to your personal skill level. If you start to dip, it takes note of that and adjusts appropriately.
On how to increase it, I don’t have any specific tips for you, but that’s because I don’t know how you play. Perhaps play with friends or even go so far as to attempt to speak with your teammates (Communication usually helps me stay wary. Battlefield Information is key.). When it comes to specific maps, make note of it’s choke points and kill zones. Find the places most of the action occurs and either learn to navigate that better or, navigate around it to flank behind and catch them off guard. Find quick ways to get behind the enemy; take the paths left untrodden (The lower level around Haven comes to mind here.) or the long route and wind round. Or, travel with your team in a deadly group where condensed fire will eliminate most targets quickly and kills will always be cleaned up by someone (Assists give points too).
For you personally, if you’re loving the DMR and only use that, I’d say move out of your comfort zone to the BR. The DMR is a monster on the battlefield and excels at most ranges, but the BR outperforms in close range and it’s three shot burst come sometimes net you multiple kills in one shot. If your a massive fan of the BR , I say do the opposite; become familiar with the DMR and learn to take advantage of your extended range.
I usually use the BR and overcome my lack of range by swiftly closing the distance with alternate routes and distractions. Be aware of your location and where possible spawns happen and where your teammates are located. If your killfeed is filling up with names and none of your team is dead, make note of where they’re waypoints are real quick and move into areas where they are not. You’ll most likely find the enemy either spawning or just moving out of spawn and can catch them unaware. Map control is still key and that includes having a rough idea of where spawns are. If you see your team taking on fire, note it and begin to flank. A quick sprint and you could be behind them or on top of them in a matter of seconds.
You can even just listen. Most maps transportation have distinct sounds that you can hear, such as the grav lifts on haven.
Hopefully some, if any, of this was helpful. I know some sounds simple, but it’s what I’ve done when I play SWAT, though I’ll admit, I haven’t logged in as much as I’d like since CSR was implemented. Hopefully that’s not a factor when judging my “Credibility.” lol
Thanks for all the help. When I play sometimes. Another players scores starts to skyrocket and I wonder how they are able to get so many kills so quickly.
I feel your struggle. I have been trying to get a 50 in SWAT for the last month now and it just feels impossible despite the fact I know this is one of the few playlists I am capable of achieving a 50 in.
I am a good SWAT player. Not brilliant but over average I would say. I consistently finish every game first (on my team) with about 20-30 kills going positive. So when I was stuck at a rank 38, I was confused why to say the least. If SWAT is an individual based playlist then why am I not ranking up despite getting more points than my team mates combined?
The problem with getting a 50 in any playlist a few months after the release of CSR is that the better players have already been and gone. They would have already achieved their 50 in the first few weeks before moving on leaving a playlist full of people like me and you who came to the party a bit too late.
That may seem like a small problem to you or not even a problem at all, but the CSR is very heavily based on your opponents CSR also. I may have gone 35-7 in one match however my opponents were very low ranks and for that reason I may even rank down because the game doesn’t see my win as “impressive”. The better players you face, the more likely you are to rank up even if you do not so well. Its a pretty stupid system really.
Take a look at 7 games I had on the 25th (kills and points). In all but two I come first on my team however still exceeded what I would assume to be enough points to rank up: 17 (225), 25 (330), 18 (260), 35 (545), 24 (320), 19 (355), 31 (400). In them games my highest ranked opponent was a 43 like I would expect. However with 28 possible enemies you would expect to see about 28 around the same rank…
The second highest was a 38 then a 36 before about four 34s. The rest were very low 30s or 20s. How am I supposed to rank up against these opponents.
I managed to escape the 30s and am now a 43 bouncing constantly between 42 and 44 despite coming first still in every game. My opponents just are not very good. I think I have faced about 3 45-50s in my last 40 games of SWAT? The matching system is terrible for CSR. Rarely do I find players over the rank of 30 which means yet again I am stuck where I am no matter how well I do.
Tips and tricks I use
I would recommend a few things to help aid your campaign.
-If you do not use already, try Bumper Jumper for your controller layout. I started using it about a month ago and its had a massive effect on my Swat play. It is surprisingly easy to use once you have the hang of it. It allows you to jump without taking your right thumb off the right stick (you can’t aim while using default settings and jumping). It also allows you to build up a nice strafe implementing crouching and Gandhi hops using the left stick to crouch which is incredibly effective. I can almost guarantee the majority if not all brilliant SWAT players use Bumper Jumper.
-Play aggressively. CSR doesn’t care if you get 20 deaths in a match. So play incredibly aggressive and make sure to learn them spawns and win them 1 on 1 gun fights. Remember points are key to level up so try force some 1v1 engagements and put pressure on the spawns quickly.
-Learn the maps and stick to the maps you know. Control the power positions. Preferably higher ground with lots of sight lines. Stick to the maps you like and know well. Learn the spawns (think about how where you are positioned on the map will effect where they will spawn), learn the power positions and the best way to control them and know how to maneuver around the maps quickly and quietly (if the opponents have top mid control on Haven, don’t lift up because a good player will predict your movement and kill you before you even have a chance to kill them). I hate Adrift and Solace so will usually try and stray away from them, I usually just vote Haven as it is an easy 20 kills if you play it right and play aggressively. This may even mean backing out the lobby. Haters gona hate…
-Avoid JIP. Pretty much a given really. You have a bigger chance of ranking down than ranking up. Not worth risking. I’m sure you know how to avoid it but if not follow the steps. If you enter a lobby where the players player cards are shown without the options to look at their service records or vote for a map, you know your in JIP. You have a small gap in which you can leave this by pressing start and going to your network settings. By changing it to my xbox, you remove yourself from matchmaking. Simply just change it back to xbox live and start searching again (takes about 10 seconds).
-Avoid guests. Bad team mates will effect how well you do so when I see a lobby with more than one guest, I leave because chances are they could be on your team.
-Use the gun that fits the map. Use the DMR on Complex and Shutout. Not doing so is just putting yourself at a disadvantage. The pistol is a very effective tool and I like using it on maps like Abandon. It has allot of bullet magnetism but apart from that, I would stick to the BR.
-Play with friends. It helps you hold down maps better and force certain spawns. Shutout is a very easy map to control and force spawns. Its almost an instant win when playing with decent teamates that you can communicate with.
-Don’t quit, just don’t. Disconnecting is unfortunate.
Thats all I got. I hope these help slightly. The more you play the better you will naturally do.
Sorry for massive wall of text xD
Thanks, I’m gonna start avoiding maps I do poorly in like Complex and stick with maps I do well in Like Abandon. I also realized that I’m pretty good at Covenant swat but unfortunately it’s not chosen very often.
