The further lengthening of the timeline to actually getting regular content is a kick in the face.
However, what is worse for me is that several things that were said were massive red flags for me. They kept constantly harping on about how halo is and has always been a competitive game and that is what people loved about it. And their focus on ensuring what they deem to be competitive and fair matches. Firstly, that is only one of many reasons why older halo games were so loved. In fact, the competitive scene in older games was much less of an attraction to most players than the fact that the game left room for FUN, and for SOCIAL experiences.
What was said on that update indicates that 343 have gone full ostrich regarding SBMM, and social playlists will never recover. And just a thought for 343. If the older games were so loved because of the level of âcompetitivenessâ then why would decide to then change the entire matchmaking system to be much stricter. Stop trying to sell this as recreating the experience that people played halo for in the first place. You are going out of your way to ruin it. If you want a social place you need to have an environment that has the space for relaxing and having fun. Not 100% competitive sweat feats day in day out. The rest will come with time, but fundamentally they do not understand why people enjoyed halo. That is an even bigger problem.
A terrible update, a pitiful amount of new content, and dishonesty by misleading fans that they were coming out of their cocoon. Couldnât be further from the truth
I constantly make the mistake of getting my hopes up for the things I care about, which is mostly more about immersion in the universe than the sandbox if that makes sense. Sadly, those things seem to all be overlooked now -
Campaign updates
Assassinations
MP armor in Campaign (co-op was such a good chance for this.)
PVE Modes a la Spartan Ops
One positive thing I can say about this update is that the roadmaps are slowly but surely getting to a more reasonable time length. Season 3âs March to June is a pretty fair season length. The only problem is we have to hope that 343 actually delivers on time.
Initial season length announcement - 3 months
Season 1 actual - 6 months - future season lengths announced as 3 months
Season 2 as announced - 6 months - future season lengths announced as âhopefulâ 3 months
Season 2 as of today - 10 months
Season 3 as of today - 4 months - future seasons announced as âmaybe someday 13 weeksâ
How can you not see that it is actually getting worse?
What I love about this is how by adding season 2.5 onto season 2, theyâve âstealthilyâ increased standard season length up to 4 months instead of 3 lol
And how can you not see that Season 3âs March 7 to June 27 is just 4 months? Which is the best length Infiniteâs seasons will ever be at (supposedly)⌠As I already stated before, it all depends on whether they deliver things on time in the roadmap.
343 did tell us like a million times that things were going to be slow and rocky but it does seem like they are at least trying a little bit to get the Seasons into a more reasonable length, itâs just taking 343 a long time as usual.
Itâs been two years since release and all you will have gotten is two free winter maps⌠yayâŚ. The game itself is still nowhere near what a âAAAâ game should be almost two years after release.
Why does everyone accept this? Itâs not a âbetaâ anymore; itâs been out for damn near 2 years with no real progress.
Youâre putting too much reliability on 343 promises. I spelled it out for you in my response that season 1 and 2 (and all seasons) have all been initially stated to be 3 months long. Season 1 was 6 months, season 2 now 10 months! Just add that to the extremely long list exemplifying 343âs motto of âover promise - under deliverâ. Why anybody believes any utterance from 343 at this point is beyond me.
