Now it’s already been said and done. But yet again another Halo doesn’t deliver for me, and it troubles me greatly. That I have to make a reasonable Semi-Rant, about things that has already been said, and I hope it gets people’s attention.:
I have only been playing Halo multiplayer since Halo 3, and I still remember that feeling that FPS game had on me. It was different from any other shooter that I played, and that’s why I played it. Back then COD4 and Halo 3, were the most two distinct shooters, each with it’s own skill curve, feel, and objective. I considered Halo the best shooter of this modern time, because of those reasons. It was unique. BR, Jumps, Respawn Time, Weapon Pick Ups, Distinctive Maps. This was Halo to me; Coming from a Semi-Casual fan. I know Halo 2 was considered better by either Hardcore fans, or MLG gamers. But it still had that “Halo” feel despite the changes.
After almost a month of Halo 4. I can reasonably say, that Halo 4 does not have that “Halo” feel, Many people have said this, and it is true, despite sounding biased. This MUST come to 343i’s attention, there are very important key features In Halo 4 that proves it is not the innovative game as it used to be. And it all comes down to the usual remark of that Halo 4 has borrowed from the COD franchise. That comment is old, but the point is, it’s 100% True, and you cannot deny it. Here’s how:
1. Ordnance is a kill streak twist obviously, because it’s a reward system. Halo has never had a reward system… You can see what it’s already molding to be…
2. Respawn time can be instant. Chaos everywhere, I’ve experienced it, Spartans funneling from the same area… over… and over… again. There is no time to hold a power position for wiping out an enemy team anymore.
3. Faster paced, Faster to kill. Now any player can go crazy with the right power weapons, which are everywhere. If I wanted fast paced, I’d play a different game
4. Sprinting. Halo 1-3 never had sprint. Because it was Halo.
5. Tactical Packages, and Support Upgrades… “They tailor to your play style” Is what 343i said. Just like what Perks do in COD. It’s too obvious, it doesn’t have to be said. Why did I play Halo?, because it was BR vs BR, pure.
6. Loadouts. The more customizable you make to an FPS… You know the rest.
Now it may seem like I’m bashing and hating, but the truth is, I like and play Halo 4, but I don’t love it, and i’ve just accepted it. And these are the key features I DESPISE the most. Which keeps reminding me every time that I just want to play Slayer. I have accepted that Halo 4, is trying In with the mainstream. What many shooters has done, Halo 4 is now doing what has been done. Do you get the main point? Do you see what I mean?. Halo didn’t have any of this, you couldn’t customize (except armor. There was no points, there was less things going on. It’s going to be said over and over again. And I’m wondering what 343i was thinking. I don’t hate them, I don’t hate the game.
Maybe I’m wrong. Or i’m over reacting to the gradual changes of Halo.
So tell me. COD has been successful consistantly, always on top in multiplayer players online. Haters say its the same thing every year. You’re right the developers in COD doesn’t want it to change. Because it’s doing so well without change, what else would those COD fans want? What do Halo fans want?
The best games that are made, borrow from nothing. They remain simple. And that’s why I believe, Halo was the best shooter for me.
