So I went to “Paris Games Week” today (10/22/11) and attended the Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary conference of David Ellis and Dennis Ries (Thanks to them for coming from Seattle). The first part was on CEA campaign and David played in front of us the third mission of the first Halo: the Truth and Reconciliation.
He only played the first part where you have to clean the firsts areas with your sniper riffle and stop right before the third area but for what I’ve seen:
-The cutscene at the beginning hasn’t changed
-The 3D model for the sniper is most likely the one from Halo:Reach, the scope screen is Halo:CE style though.
-The map is “greener”: it’s covered with grass and small bushes. If you want to imagine it: think about “Nightfall” from Halo:Reach.
Link to the video preview: => [ A huge thaks to “Renegade Fire” who made a topic on it and to “jambon1erprix” who uploaded the vid.
I think this is it if you have any question, just ask.
> what does the sniper rifle look more like reach’s or halo 3’s?
It definitly loks more like halo:reach than halo3, as I said: I think the 3D model (its shape) is the one from halo:reach (maybe the scope has been changed a litlle: maybe less large) The “point of view” as been changed to it with the one from halo CE: in CE you were closer to the scope than in Reach and you could see the top of it. If you compare those two pictures you’ll know what I mean: Halo:ReachHalo:CE
> Were there Marines or ODSTs fighting along side you?
Yes thre were the regular marines with their assault rifles and their green head up display thing ^^ I didn’t see Johnson though.
> About 3min in. Haven’t seen the SRS yet, don’t care, thought I’d post so ya could see what the OP was talking aboot.
Thanks for the link
> Only real question I have is in terms of skulls or the Terminal.
Nothing here all I can tell you is that David turned “Grunt birthday party” on and I think there was less but bigger confettis when a grunt got headshoted.

Aww… that’s dissapointing. I was hoping they’d make them ODSTs like in the book.

Well as it’s a perfect remake and only a remake, they can’t change marines into ODST. Though, I agree it would have been cool!

Well, they do have ODSTs in Firefight, but are you saying that they couldn’t change them to ODSTs because they are all marines in the original, and so every Marine instance would be changed to an ODST throughout the game according to how they’re doing the remake? If so that actually makes sense, but I don’t know how much flexibility the two engines gives them.

Well they could have made the Marines look like ODSTs in the remastered graphics quite easily. I don’t really mind though. I just thought it would have tied it into the book better.
Also I’m pretty sure the Marines at the beginning of the Silet Cartographer are meant to be ODSTs.

ODSTs from firefight are there because it’s the Reach mutliplayer.
No they could change the marines into ODSTs and I’m pretty sure they could make only some marines turn into ODSTs but what I’m saying is that they can’t change them for “ethical” reasons: they chose to make a perfect remake and to change nothing (except for skulls and terminals) so if they turn a single marine into ODST they’d broke their own rule.

I didn’t read the books so I don’t know why do you say that but considering others Halo missions it’s true they could have been ODSTs.
