Truly disappointing 20th anniversary reveal

After watching Gamescom today I have no good feelings about this game.

A Mulitplayer reveal trailer… cool, what’s next?

A controller, kind of cool…

Oh wait, one final reveal! A console that’s sold out before the end of the reveal…

3 months until release, no campaign reveal, very limited details on multiplayer, and the game will be missing crucial features at launch that have been a standard in Halo for over a decade? Not only that but constantly seeing 343’s career website filling then re-listing the same job postings every few months doesn’t lead me to believe that there is a strong team building this game. After an almost 7 year development period and a year long delay because of COVID this game still isn’t going to launch strong, there is too much doubt in the community even amongst the most hardcore content creators. Also, where are the pros talking about how excited they are for what this game is going to mean for esports?

Nothing from Metacritic, GamesRadar, IGN. Which means that none of them have even received a review copy yet…

I really hope that 343 can get their act together before we have another Cyberpunk 2077 style flop with Microsoft’s flagship title.

Please 343i, give us something that shows us, the community, that your game is really ready for launch.

chill theres still over about 100 days left they could easily begin/drop off more trailers and such.

Look how long before the release of Halo 5 the marketing was live.
Of course, the marketing of Halo 5 and the game itself are totally opposites but I think you get my point.

While Halo 5 got so much marketing and hype, trailers and news, like how ranked system works, even when it was just with a picture of the symbols of the ranks, it was at least something.

I barealy can tell anything good I heard in the last 2 months.

I think this game is going the Halo 5 route.

But worse. F2P live service trash. Heavier monetisation. And same T rating implying AGAIN no Flood in a Halo game and dumbed down blood if any at all.

I’m losing hope. They are even cutting features left right and center.

The celebration of the 20th anniversary has been a console that has been bought by speculators. And a $ 200 controller. I feel disappointed.

I’m seriously baffled by the expectations some people have.
If y’all wanna criticize, critize the one you see when you look into your mirror for setting up those expectations in the first place.

Um. Expectations have definitely plummeted.

Damn a 105 days never looked that long, even after waiting for 6 years

On topic though; Great to see that infinite’s cinematics will be spot on and I expected only a release date so I’m satisfied.
The marketing machine will probably pick up speed soon enough with teasers so I’m not worried about a lack of gameplay here.

Nice that halo themed console and controller are made for whoever is in to that. They’ll probably try to make a second batch available but only for delivery after release taking the chip shortages into account.

I’m still excited about Halo Infinite. What happens to me is that I feel sad and disappointed about what happened with Series X. This is no way to treat Halo fans.

Marketing is just starting (and tbh that trailer was amazing), there will be more. Hell, an Inside Infinite is tomorrow

Scalpers bought them out fast, the console was meant for fans, but scalpers are always there.
If they’d have a second batch, they should’ve made the whole thing “on-demand” to begin with, everyone who wants one gets it.
Big middle finger to scalpers.

I hope they announce their 20th anniversary Halo Livestream soon for more news about everything, i want a Halo Infinite Legendary Edition.

I must be one of the only few that are still hyped for this game, with as much negativity I see here and there. They’ve stated they’d reveal more campaign footage before release still, and I for one enjoyed what they put out today. Do I want more? Of course. But I’m not overly disappointed at this point and am still excited.

Expectations are set by the past

I’ve been very optimistic this whole time, but I was very disappointed today. It’s cool we seem to be getting some multiplayer CGI videos for each season, I like it. But I feel like we still know so little about this game and it’s releasing in just over 3 months time.

about a 100 days till is out, and still fligth to figth.
Its going to be a short wait after so much time, anything can happen, even me reaching SR152

It was ok. Kind of getting used to the disappointing LE console designs and not expecting much from 343i since they made it pretty clear they don’t care about coop fans by rushing the game. I think the trailer itself for the console cool but the LE console itself seems kind of boring. It would have been nice if it had something interesting like custom launch sounds but all it looks like a pretty meh skin.

The multiplayer trailer on the other hand seemed interesting but not because of the multiplayer…I found myself more interested in what the younger adult was doing in an over-run Brute City while confused how she jumped in height many years later. Kind of makes me want a game where someone is trying to get out of a city while trying to find help.

Sadly feel like I need to keep my expectations low due to the way Halo has is handled these days.

Yeah! How dare I expect a game to launch complete?

Clearly I should expect less from a modern game studio. The golden age of completed games is long since over.

After reading through some of these comments, some are very valid points.

Are the communities expectations too high? - I don’t think so, a AAA game studio that has the funding 343i has shouldn’t have any problems meeting deadlines or launching with essential features. There are a lot of reasons why this game isn’t launching on time and complete, but it worries me that the campaign hasn’t been seen since last year and the multiplayer being a Live F2P is going to make them more money in the long run. Which I don’t blame them for focusing more on multiplayer, its going to make them a lot of money. At the same time I remember hearing that there will not be any microtransactions in Halo Infinite. 343i is shafting the long-time fans of the series and newcomers alike who wont be able to have the amazing experience of a full fledged halo game at launch.

The marketing is just about to get started - The marketing campaign should’ve been started at least 6-8 months prior to launch to build hype, hell I’m sure they could’ve gotten Pepsi to sign of on a commercial of Chief bashing a brute over the head with a Mountain Dew Game Fuel or something. No ARG prior to release, no Hunt the Truth style story driven rabbit hole for us to dive into? There is a lot going wrong here and a CGI multiplayer intro for Season 1 doesn’t drive hype. Cool, a nameless Spartan training recruits and a backstory about how she thought the Spartan’s were so cool she decided to become one of them. It’s not Chief and its not the fight we all signed on for in 2001. Bring in the Chief, bring on the hype!

Is the hype real? - Are we excited for this game? Sure, most of us on here are all here for the same reason. We love Halo, we love the story, the characters. However, 343i hasn’t really shown us anything to be excited about. We have seen a couple multiplayer maps, a few new weapons, bots that can -Yoink!- (due to a glitch they’re removing, which is kind of stupid not to leave that in.). But they’re giving us the green beans, not the meat and potatoes. Where are the vast landscapes of Zeta Halo? Where is the flora and fauna that we saw in the slipspace engine demo from years back. What’s with the mysterious glyphs on Zeta Halo (that could’ve been its own ARG right there, missed opportunity). There are too many unknowns with this game right now and I don’t want to hype myself up for another failed launch of a video game (Cyberpunk 2077).

All in all, I love Halo. But I’m sure most can agree with me on this, this is going be a very interesting next few months. I want this game to absolutely blow my mind when it comes out, but I just cant see that happening with what we know as of today…

I really feel this is Microsoft’s fault, but in the event that it isn’t…yeah, you’re right. It seems they really don’t care enough about the co-op and forge players (and the vast majority of players who like to play custom maps) to wait until the game is completed to launch. But like I said, I still believe this was a Microsoft decision, and I don’t think 343 is happy about it
