True spartan power, a great compromise

Halo 5 has been the closest game at replicating a spartan’s true lethality, however one of these abilities is very controversial. Can you guess which one? Of course you can, there is a post about it every day. Players either love sprint, or they hate it for different reasons. I am not here to fight about the removal of sprint, which I would previously do, but instead offer an alternative that shows the true power of a spartan.

Before I give you my alternative, I will list some of the pros and cons of sprint to show how this solution can fix everything and only result in pros.

Sprint Pros

-Feeling of speed
-Pushes Halo forward in comparison to other games, “evolution”
-expected to be in most modern games
-Compliments the lore (sort of, get to that soon)

Sprint cons

-Maps become larger
-Players can use a “get out of jail free card”
-Creates “cat and mouse” gameplay
-Players have to sacrifice their weapon
-Slows gameplay

With some of the factors of sprint that are most often talked about out of the way, I would like to propose the idea of a true “Spartan sprint”

Unlike the average human, spartans are augmented and have some of the most advanced suits of armor. Their bones are basically unbreakable, they have more muscle tissue, increased intelligence on the battlefield, and extremely good eyesight…and you telling me they cannot fire a gun while sprinting?

Well, they can. With 343 implementing the lore into multiplayer, it would only make sense to give the next generation of spartans this crucial battlefield ability. Not only does this help the lore and the feeling of power when playing as a spartan, but is also greatly compliments the gameplay.

All of the pros of sprint remain, and the lore is even strengthened . The cons all die, larger maps? Not a problem, shooting and sprinting at the same time will cause it to play like a faster paced halo 3 with even more abilities. Get our of jail free/ cat and mouse? Players who run can be chased down by you, with your gun. Players no longer have to give up their weapon.

As a result, the gameplay is no longer slow and players get to feel like a spartan.

This sprint would work like an animated speed boost with a timer.(Current sprint is like speed boost, but you have to lose your weapon) Players however would have to keep going in a forward direction or sprint would shut down to prevent players from fighting normal battles with sprint.

Sprint is now a viable tool in battle.

Give me some feedback. Good idea? Or terrible?

I was actually thinking about this thing the other day and I like it.

The whole reason people like sprint, myself included, is because we want a speed boost like that. I’d be totally fine with being able to sprint and fire your weapon at the same time.

Yeah that sounds horrible.

It’s not a balance at all, it just makes it redundant to use.

The point of sprint is to have risk/reward. Do I move fast but put my gun down? Or do I keep my gun up?

Plus, “lore” wouldn’t be able to excuse the fact that a spartan can suddenly run 30 mph and keep pinpoint accuracy with any gun.

Have been thinking of this for a while now, have posted it a couple times in some threads and decided to make a thread of it. Wouldn’t be hard to add to halo 5 either(I hope)

Well, spartans have amazing abilities in the books, in the lore they can fire a gun while sprinting. Sprint has never really been a risk vs reward thing honestly, even if it is, a poor one at that. Offer the ability to travel a speed on the map I should already have or my gun? Halo is all about having your gun to use.

Also, how is it redundant? Do you mean in the way that it may be over used? If so, a timer like the one in reach could fix that.

It’s redundant I’m that it makes sprint less of a way to get around the map and more of a way to bum rush people With shotguns.

Oh, and the cat and mouse you mentioned was rendered moot because of the nerd where you can be shot out of sprint within the first .5 seconds of them pressing the sprint button. so you basically forgot about that.

On top of that, the books.never Saif they had pinpoint accuracy, sure, they hit things, but I doubt that justifies allowing some gamers to sprint so fast and get heads hots with a sniper rifle.

In Halo 5 sprint is a risk vs reward. What you want does not balance it out at all.

You could easily bum rush people with shotguns without this. All you have to do is sprint, then stop sprinting and shoot.

There are still situations where you can easily escape, turn a corner and run, the other player is forced to sprint after him. You cant act like players are always going to be in a straight line of fire.

The books describe the incredible strength of spartans, they would be able to keep a gun stable while running. It’s not rocket science. The video listed above is also part of the lore, all of halo legends is assumed to be lore, other than the odd one out.

What is the risk and reward? Other than the ones I have stated, I want to know. Not trying to fight here, just trying to create a compromise.

Except with current sprint you have to end the sprint to shoot. With your idea 8 could easily shoot while sprinting, erasing those feq moments where the enemy could react.

Still, if you shoot the sprinter once, no more sprint. Be skilled enough to hit someone.

Plus, I could turn a corner and run in ANY halo.

But it never EVER said they could be accurate like that. And, I hate saying this, but in this case lore =/= gameplay.

The risk reward is that if you run, you could be shot out of it early, you can’t shoot back for a short period time time, and then there’s the shield recharge delay.

Yes, but a bum rush is a bum rush, especially with a shotgun, there is no time to react.

I can hit players easy, actually really easy compared to aiming in some pc games I have played recently. Yes, you can turn corners, but the turn of a corner could give a player crucial time to start a sprinting cycle. In older halo games, you could just follow and shoot him while doing so, what I am trying to bring back.

They could be accurate like that. The incredible strength they have insures it. The augmentations have made them better with everything, so even if there was some wobble in the shooting(doubtful), they would control it.

Your right, I hate lore is a part of gameplay. However unfortunately a lot of people on the forum use that as an argument, so I must bring it up, especially now that 343 uses that as an excuse for gameplay decisions.

Ah, ok. The shield delay is a good thing, but that can still exists with what I offer. The risk of not shooting back is a problem I have, in halo we should always have access to our weapon.

In Halo 5 when you sprint you get that crosshair tht looks like 2 arrows, what if you still get that when you sprint, but you could still ue the gun?

Yes, you can turn corners, but the turn of a corner could give a player crucial time to start a sprinting cycle. In older halo games, you could just follow and shoot him while doing so, what I am trying to bring back.

> Your right, I hate lore is a part of gameplay. However unfortunately a lot of people on the forum use that as an argument, so I must bring it up, especially now that 343 uses that as an excuse for gameplay decisions.

In classic halo games following anyone around a corner is a bad idea anyway.

And the bum rush would be different because you’re idea allows people to one shot someone at even more times, making it less risk reward more reward reward.

Well you say that even the lore couldn’t explain why spartans could sprint and still be totally accurate.
In Halo 5 when you sprint you lose your normal crosshair and instead there are two arrows.

My compromise would be that you should be able to use your weapon while you are sprintin, but you shouldn’t have your normal crosshair, instead you should see these arrows.

Fair point, I give you that one

It’s not about not being able to run without losing you ability to shoot. The post beta changes address this already. A spartan is already technically running but regardless of that he would run faster if he put his hands down lol. Now the difference between sprint and regular running speed as been decreased.

Does flash need to swing his arms to be fast than anyone on earth? Noo but he is faster when he does lol it’s just common sense.

I dont think this is a good idea. There is basically no incentive to ever stop sprinting. My stomach churns at the memory of Halo 3 and people constantly just charging forward with an assault rifle, this wold be that x10. This idea of sprint-and-shoot would kill the strafe dance, and kill Halo.

> Yep. Its a risk reward choice. Sacrifice weapon at the ready for a movement speed bonus. This type of game play choice dates as far back as the Counter Strike knife.

> Must not have noticed, because I thought the pacing of H5 was fine.
