True Skill ???

I keep seeing the phrase ‘True Skill’ banded about in these forums and the fact that H4 doesnt (yet) cater for it. I’m at odds to understand what ‘True Skill’ is. For example;
Certain players like to show the world how high their K/D is, but as we all know this figure is meaningless because SO many ‘just go for kills’/quit when its not going well/hide with a DMR or sniper/do absolutely nothing but wait until the tank respawns/etc etc.
Snipe headshot ratio was another silly boast when it was more sensible to take out the tank.
Game wins favour tactic driven teams, not ability.
Medal collections often depend on team mate assistance…
So, to the point - What is true skill and what will it mean in H4 once it comes?

True-skill is what calculates your skill level and matches you up with people who are fairly close to ensure close matches.

It’s implemented in the background of the game already. What some people want is a system that tells them what their true-skill rank is.

Every game that has online MM uses TrueSkill, including Halo 4. You can read about it here.

Basically it goes off of your W/L and the general standings in the game.

What you are referring to, is the ranked 1-50 system that Halo 2 and 3 had. That is coming early next year and is basically a visual representation of MS’s TrueSkill system. I believe that Bungie, and now 343, take the algorithm that TrueSkill uses and tweak things so it ends up including things such as K/D. Then, when you win or lose a match in Halo, your 1-50 rank goes up or down accordingly.
