"True" Halo Fans?

This topic is old but:
Many “true” halo fans have been bashing at Halo 5 Guardians for not staying at it’s “core game play”.
The hate has gotten worse because multiple website critics have been giving Halo 5 Guardians a review of 8.5/10 in average.
I understand that every one has a point of view and opinion but Halo 5 has at best 6 million fans waiting to buy the game.
Sales have always been a problem for the halo sequels in comparison to Gears of War and COD.
It does not help that people seem to bash at the game for such negligible reasons.
Now my concern and my questions to all of you are:
does Halo feel milked?
Why?
Do you think halo is loosing or gaining popularity?
How do you think Halo 5 Guardians will sell?
Does it feel like a true halo?
Do you claim to be a true halo fan?

“correct me if I’m wrong”

How is a game milked if the main series releases a game once in three years ?
Also, elitists, a.k.a. “true” fans are the worst in every kind of scene.

Halo Reach. Halo 4. Halo MCC. (Insert Halo 5 once it is released). 'nuff said.

No such thing.

Yeah I think advancing is good. To change everything would be a mistake. But if you prefer the way halo 2 looks, works or storywise then play halo 2 or whatever game these “True” fans adore. A true fan is someone who loves the series and enjoys seeing where it leads and how it shifts and changes over years. A big part of massive fandom is also in exploring the EU and enjoying the games. Not whinging every time something changes or your specialised method of churning out OP kills gets out dated. God I hate elitist game snobs.

Where did you see any critic reviews? They aren’t allowed to post them, and even so most critics have been massively praising it. Also, 8.5 is not and never will be average.

Halo is none of what the biased critics and PlayStation/PC hipster fanboys will Call it. How is it “generic/milked”? There is not a SINGLE FPS that’s more original than Halo. Halo is better and more fun than Cod, Destiny, Battlefield, Half-Life, Counter strike and everything else. The only reason critics will give the game a bad rating is to lure the exponentially expanding horde of PlayStation fanboys to their websites to get them more traffic so that advertisers pay them more, basic capitalism. ALSO, where on EARTH did you find an “8.5” rating on Halo 5? I haven’t found any ratings anywhere…

Really the only true fans are the ones that have read all the books, played all the games, know everything like its on the back of their hand, but I think at that point something is wrong. Really though people are always gonna hate, even when its something so small it doesn’t matter, its just how this industry works (or the “fans” of that industry.
Also I don’t think Halo is milked. Milked would be if Halo had no good ideas and wasn’t changing anything over the course of at least 2 games. Halo has changed immensely in Guardians, so I don’t think anyone could validly argue that Halo is milked

If a new one came out every year and used the same engine every time, then it would be milked.
I think that the T rating will open Halo to a new “younger” generation of fans, therefore, I believe that the game will sell well.
To be honest, I think up to this point, Halo had a large decrease in fans, but now Halo 5 will bring them back.

I like the fact that Halo is on 3 year development cycles. It tells a great story and has rich universe. want to know a milked series. run a google search on COD or Assassins Creed. AC was one of my favorite series, I wasn’t even a little bit interested in finishing Unity.

I’m sure both those developers enjoyed making those games at one point.

Also where did you get your 8.5 score? and give a site that is relevant, cause the embargo hasn’t been lifted yet to my knowledge

I can say with certainty that I am a bigger Halo fan, or as big of a Halo fan as anyone here. I’m not saying that because I feel like I am, I have proved to be one of the biggest fans of the franchise. With that being said, I have a strong feeling that Halo 5 will be one of the strongest games in the franchise and I am hyped more for this game than I have for any game that has come before it. And trust me, if you think “true Halo fans” are the ones bashing Halo 5, then you need really need to reevaluate the definition you have led yourself to believe.

I guess I’m a “true” fan, and I love it. Its a perfect blend of modern and old school arena mechanics.

Actually both series are now on 3 year development cycles, sometimes more in the case of AC. The problem is the different visions the developers have for the franchise, and the publishers. COD refuses to change its now dated core principles and has industry wide hate for many reasons. AC was also one of my favorite series until Unity, but Syndicate seems quite decent and reminds me of Black Flag. Halo has a single developer who is passionate about the franchise and cares about every part of the game, which is why I love it so much because no one part of the game is sent out to die or to check boxes.

  1. It does feel a bit milked, but as long as the game remains solid and doesn’t become another CoD, we’ll be good. I feel this way because the game had seemingly ended with Halo 3, ODST and Reach becoming a way to tell some side stories and give a prequel to Halo: CE. Then here comes Halo 4, and everything else that came after.

  2. With Hunt the Truth and all of these other marketing campaigns, Halo is just as popular as ever.

  3. Unless the game launches with multiple bugs and glitches, Halo 5 will sell just fine.

  4. True Halo, to me, is the campaign. The multiplayer is fine and all, but if the campaign is what we’ve come to expect from past Halo games, then Halo 5 will be a true Halo game.

  5. I partially consider myself a true Halo fan. This is because I didn’t play Halo: CE - Halo 3 until much, much later, even though I’ve immersed myself in the lore of the games since I got my Xbox.

True fans aren’t afraid to criticize the franchise that they love. The fans who are always overly optimistic about everything seem very shady to me.

We are all true Halo fans.

I wish we could ban comparing this game to CoD. They are nothing similar. As soon as I see those three letters pop up I skip to the next comment. It’s trolling, pure and simple.

I very strongly dislike the idea of a “true” (insert label here). It always makes me think of the No True Scotsman fallacy. But, for the purposes of this discussion, yes; I do consider myself a true Halo fan. Been a massive fan of the franchise since the day Halo: Combat Evolved was released on the original Xbox, and Halo: The Fall of Reach is my second favorite novel of all time.

The first is The Shining, for those who are curious.

Anyway, no, I don’t feel like Halo is being milked. We get one game every three years, and thus far, the games have always been more or less amazing. Contrast this with Assassin’s Creed, which has been releasing one game a year since either Brotherhood or Revelations, and has changed so many things that when I look back at Assassin’s Creed 2, I barely even recognize the franchise anymore.

It’s tough to say whether Halo is gaining or losing popularity. Judging by these forums I’d say it’s losing, but then I remember that the only people who come to forums are the die-hards.

I truly do not know how well Halo 5: Guardians will sell. The Locke/Chief split is probably the biggest thing working against it, but if the story still manages to deliver, it may not be as big a hindrance as I fear. And if multiplayer delivers, it could very well boost Halo 5’s numbers above Halo 4’s. We’ll have to wait and see.

As for Halo 5 feeling like Halo, let me put it this way. Halo 2 was my all-time favorite Halo game prior to Halo 4, and it was the only Halo game whose multiplayer I truly loved. Until people figured out the -Yoinking!- Noob Combo. >.< So keep that in mind when I tell you that Halo 5’s multiplayer beta felt more like Halo to me than any of the other Halo games since 2.
