I’ve been trolling the forums for weeks now, lurking in the dark corners of threads praising and disgracing 343i for their work on Halo 4. There is something I’ve noticed. It’s becoming increasingly easy to spot the true fans and the folks who either want to complain about every single little thing or who have long since lost interest in Halo and were looking for an excuse to leave.
“343i broke Halo! I’m never coming back!” means one of two things, I’ve seen: Either the person is looking to stir things up and flame everyone else who might read, and thus start an argument or a massive complaint flood, or the person hasnt really been a fan of Halo for a while and is celebrating the fact he has an excuse to drop the saga.
Then there is the rest of us. The ones who have been here since the beginning. We were there when we were ‘jest getting started’. We stopped the prophets from starting the Great Journey, we watched the Covenant occupy New Mombassa, and we finished the fight.
We’ve been through thick and thin with Halo, what is a minor setback like this for a true fan? Sure, there is ALOT wrong with the game. I am not saying there isnt. So many things have changed from the Halo we started with, so much has evolved over the years and now we’re taking a great leap into uncharted space.
While the wannabes are all crying and complaining and jumping ship; we, the true fans, hold our ground. This seems like a step back for Halo, but the truest fans out there will stand by it to the end. The true fans march through this darkness, true fans march forward unto dawn.
I agree, I may have my concerns, and things I want to see improved, but I could never leave this series.
I will play Halo even when I am to old to hold a controller correctly or whatever we will be using at that point ;).
I see things improving and getting better, and I am sure it will continue. Halo 5 will indeed be the one that blow’s our minds I am sure. I could see Halo 5 being the title that does what Halo CE and Halo 2 did for us when they released, and be the gold standard for gaming on Next Gen platforms.
There are many things wrong with Halo 4, but then again there were things wrong with every Halo game. But the true fans will see through the flaws to see why the Halo games and universe as a whole are so great. We’re the ones running into battle shouting “Axios!”
Right? At this point, the only thing I am really put-off about is the lack of ‘custom’ in ‘custom games’ in the same way there was in previous installations, but even that is a minor annoyance I can overlook in order to enjoy the game to it’s fullest.
Halo 4 is a great game. Even with one bad game in the series… I would never leave halo. The one bad game for me in the series was Reach. Halo 4 has some problems and i will be the 1st to admit it but no game is perfect and neither is any company. Yes 343 should have done some things differently like with the ranking system but they also did a lot of good. I have faith in 343 that they will clean up the mistakes they made and know they made but then again they’re a new company and are still learning.
Halo 4 is like bungies halo 1. So halo 5 will be like bungies halo 2. So that must mean things will even get better…That is how i see it in my eyes.I am excited to see what 343 has in the future for us, with halo 5 and 6.
This was the company’s first game, they’re still learning how to do things. This was the dress rehearsal for the rest of the series. It may be a step back, but Halo will rise from the ashes, clad in the best 343i can offer.
While I agree with the “Politics how tiresome” quote, there I have to disagree with the “True Fans” name.
True fans can be made to hate their own love, by something bad or disgraceful becoming of it, or something they don’t like… I personally have been around since Halo CE. I have complaints yes, but I don’t care. I loved each game and decided to stick with it. Does that make me a “True Fan”? Does owning the limited and legendary editions of each game make me a “True Fan”?
The answer is no. I’m just a fan. Not higher or lower than anyone else. Not more special than someone who just picked up the game for the first time.
What I am is a player. I enjoy the game, and other games too. “True Fan” is Fanatical. Hence Fan. So I reject that title, and refuse to be held higher on a pedestal higher than anyone who might have just started playing. The only people I want to hear about being “Untrue” or whatever, are the people broken at my feet as I beat their heads in with my virtual hands! Or guns… Or sword or hammer or what have you!
