I’ve been scrolling through the Support section for the past while and I can’t help but realize that people are having similar issues regarding lag and internet connectivity. So break things up (and hopefully provide some answers), I’ll share some personal tips on how to fix those issues more effectively.
Minimizing Lag:
- Play on a wired connection using an Ethernet cable that is connected directly to your router. If you’re forced to play on Wi-Fi, place your console as close as possible to your home’s router. Keep any metal objects (especially big, heavy ones) away from the router to prevent signal interference. - Set any unneeded electronic devices (laptops, smartphones, tablets, etc) to “airplane mode” to ease stress on your internet. You may however, keep your smartphone connected while playing. - Do not use any network-intensive mobile apps as they will cause severe lag issues if they’re in use.If you’re still having issues, please contact Xbox Customer Support or consult the official Xbox website for troubleshooting tips and tricks. YouTube can also provide answers in a relatively quick manner. I recommend taking notes (physical or digital) on troubleshooting procedures and their steps so you may fix any reoccurring issues on your own without needing Xbox Support. Should you encounter any error codes, write them down or take pictures for future reference.
Fixing Connection Issues:
- Perform a hard reset by holding down your console’s power button until it shuts off. Let it cool down for 30 seconds before turning it back on. - Restart your internet router by performing the following:
A. Unplugging it from the power outlet for 10-30 seconds before plugging it back in
B. Holding down the reset button until the router restarts itself. Depending on your router model, you’ll need a toothpick or a needle to hit the reset button.Restarting your router generally takes about 5 minutes to complete and will improve the quality of your games. If you’re still having issues, contact your internet service provider (ISP) for further support. Should it become necessary, you should have your ISP dispatch a technician to visit your house and diagnose the issue. Be prepared to pay for any necessary service fees.
I hope my advice helps anyone out!
