Trivial thing but par for the course it seems

I’ve unlocked all the Battle Pass content, the 30 tier Winter Update, and the current Noble Event… so now when I finish a match, whatever xp I’ve gained from playing and completing challenges just turns into vapor, accumulates towards nothing, simply disappears as if I hadn’t played at all.
That leaves a bit of a hollow feeling and I think serves as an impediment to keep playing… why should I… I’m not working towards any type of goal or achievement and nothing I do at this point in the game is being tracked and rewarded.
For comparison, I’ve been playing Guardians now for 5 years, think I have something like 1,500 arena games played and I still have 38 ranks to attain and literally ‘hundreds’ of content pieces and commendations to unlock… there’s a reason to keep playing!

So, since I actually enjoy Infinite’s multiplayer, I’d like there to be a reason for me to keep playing which is why I finally gave Ranked Arena a try.
Gotta say, I’m a little surprised that well over a year after launch, there’s only 5 maps to play on but whatever, Aquarius, Recharge, and Streets are all beautiful maps to look at and play well in my opinion.
I put in my 10 games to get ‘ranked’ and in the match results screen after the 10th match, I caught something I’ve never seen before, they got words beginning on top of other words!
… letters all crammed together and sitting on top of other letters making both words unreadable at first.
Thought maybe it was just a momentary glitch on my flatscreen so I played another game and there it was again… letters sitting on top of other letters lol!

The good news is a progression system is coming!

Probably by Season 4?

Hopefully there will be some reward for XP already accumulated…

They took out Recharge & Detachment for now. They’re saying it should return when Season 3 starts in a couple weeks. So for now theres even fewer maps to play on then before.

Commendations would be a welcomed addition and I think that would be a good way to give free cosmetics.

If you checkout Halo Tracker I have a personal score of 1.9million. I always assumed that was my cumulative XP.

No Vapor just hidden.

nice… thanks for the heads up, I remember there being something online like that I just forgot where it was.
I’m still gonna go with ‘vapor’ though seeing how that kind of in-depth stat tracking should be IN the game rather than on some 3rd party web-site… and it should build towards something, some kind of payoff.

I honestly don’t have any issues with 343’s decision to make Infinite’s multiplayer free to play or that they, to this point, have skipped including a conventional ranking and progression system for one built around unlocking seasonal cosmetics… but, they gotta figure out some way so that the player is ‘always’ working towards an achievement, a rank, or some type of content, not just on Ranked Arena, but throughout multiplayer regardless of which playlist a player chooses.
Otherwise, yeah, to me it’s just vapor!

… and while they’re at it, somebody over there at 343 needs to reposition and better space the in-game dialogue boxes so words aren’t starting on top of other words.
trivial thing like I said but it makes an already beleaguered, viciously ridiculed title look that much worse, as if it deserves all the derision and the endlessly negative you-tube videos.

I’m looking forward to the overall progression system. I doubt that we’ll get rewarded for how many games we’ve played prior to the release of it. I see us all starting from square one again on this one. Overall, I’m extremely excited for it and hope that it goes out without a hitch.

Starting from scratch makes me way less excited.

We’ll all have caveats - I’m Rank X but with 3000 additional matches.

Of course, nobody wants to end up with a high rank and little else to achieve once it’s introduced.

I guess we’ll see.

I think it would be a real shame not to recognise the time people have put in.

Especially given the rocky start.

And I say this without any personal bias. I’ve never really been fussed with grinding XP.

Maybe they could start everyone at 0 - but you get double XP until you catch up to your overall total. That way you can have a sense of working through and earning rewards etc - but what you’ve already done isn’t forgotten.

I still have roughly 55 double xp tokens from the first battle pass because I snagged so many of them at launch thinking that they’d all be useful. Turns out there really aren’t until true seasonality starts.

Yeah still have mine from the times I saved mine up from the BP and Game pass perks…

I still totally think the battle pass system needs to be replaced. It’s terrible both from a customer standpoint, and a business perspective.

I couldn’t agree with you more, it doesn’t work in either respect.
To be fair to the team at 343 though, I wouldn’t be surprised at all to learn it wasn’t their idea to start with or that they might have even initially pushed back against it.
It’s pretty easy to imagine some tennis-playing, upper echelon, Microsoft executive watching all that money pour into the coffers over at Activision because of C.O.D.'s seasonal content and want to force a similar type of income generator into Halo… while being completely oblivious to ‘why’ that works for C.O.D. and why it wouldn’t work for an old-school, arena shooter built around starting weapon parity and a Spartan that can only be personalized to a limited extent.
