Traveling ‘inside’ of a Halo ring

“The Covenant did a thorough seismic scan. My analysis shows that Halo is honeycombed with deep tunnels - which circle the whole ring.”

This is something we’ve really only seen in CE and Halo Wars, that Forerunner installations have tunnels which can be accessed from the surface and used to covertly traverse long distances.

I think it’d be really cool to see this expanded upon in gameplay, maybe with a Hornet or a Falcon section in a mission. Even if it were just in another cinematic I still think it’d be super cool; I love how Cortana says “the last thing the Covenant will expect is an aerial insertion… from underground”. It’d be really ironic to use the same strategy against her.

I hope we see something similar to what you described in infinite. I hope we see parts of the ring we’ve never really seen before in a halo game and not just a rehash of older games

As we see in halo 5, the rings and shield worlds all have a transmat system which obviates the need for tunnels.

While this is true, I would imagine there are numerous service tunnels for maintenance access. And, as stated by the OP, Cortana mentioned that Installation 04 was honeycombed with tunnels.

To be fair, we did travel underground in some minor sections of the ring in H2 as well with the Arbiter and you can see some sort of complex travelling system during the reconstruction of Installation 04 on the Arc. HCE and HW1 though are the only one that really explored Halo’s tunneling system for the lack of a better term on a lager scale.

And yes, I do feel like a total nerd right now!

That doesn’t mean tunnels aren’t there though and if Hi is really a free roaming title, I would be surprised if there weren’t underground sections similar to HCE frankly. Plus caverns, because ancient humans!^^

True, but in CE Cortana says that using the teleportation system requires an exorbitant amount of energy. It’s possible the UNSC hasn’t learned how to tap into this grid yet, or maybe Cortana has locked the monitor out of their installation’s systems like how she did to Exuberant Witness in Halo 5.

That would make sense

Given that Cortana has become a cocky little -Yoink-, I would LOVE to see that strategy used against her.
