So I have seen a few threads complaining about the armour looking somewhat like Halo 4’s armour. They don’t like the new looking shine to it.
It is just an theoretical idea, and I am not sure it would be possible but what if the armour becomes damaged after fighting.
So anyone who has played Grand Theft Auto 5 will know when you die or get shot your character will have blood and wounds on them, would it be possible to do a similar thing with the Halo armour? Not blood but dents and scratches.
I am aware that GTA is a different type of game all together, but if it was possible in Halo, does anyone think it would be a good idea?
They had this idea in Halo 3 (I think you can even see it on spartan armor in older beta screenshots) but it…I don’t know, took up too much memory or whatever bull bungie loved to come up with. “Fuel rod cannon isn’t in multiplayer maps because of lag” was a popular one, right next to “can’t add armor because hard coding things and junk”
I’m sure the tech (and the talent) has improved since then. I’m betting it’s possible in whatever variation most people think of, but I imagine it would be seen as unneeded fluff, so to speak.

Yeah I get what your saying, however in this new generation of detail and amazing graphics I believe it would be a nice addition.
This is a great idea, and speaking of things that Bungie did’t add in, there was a gametype for either Halo 3 or Reach that would’ve been somewhat like Conquest from Battlefield. It looked amazing, Frigates fighting Cruisers, Scorpions everywhere, Ghosts locked in countless conflicts with Warthogs, damn it looked epic.
Maybe 343i can capitalise on that want for a large scale gametype and add it in to H5? I mean…with the power of the Xbox One and all…surely it can’t be IMPOSSIBLE…?
As an alternative idea, how about being able to choose that look when customizing ur spartan? To me it seems even cooler to choose certain skins for your armor pieces so maybe I could say I want my chest plate heavily scratched and beat up but I want my arms and legs to still look brand new or only slightly worn. Maybe even select a crack in my visor. Just saying there could be a lot of options with the customization this way and perhaps fewer with your idea (not that your idea isn’t good).
I like the idea of armor becoming battle-damaged, however, it needs to be limited to between the time you spawn and the time you die. If you’re the most badass player in the game, everyone is gonna know it. Not just because you have the highest kill count in the match, but you have 0 deaths, and it shows on your Spartan. There are bullets holes, plasma burns, a cracked visor, paint chipped off, dents, broken armor pieces.
Then, when you do finally die, you respawn with fresh, clean armor and get it all screwed up again. Granted, perhaps the amount of damage shown would have to be limited. Because if you did survive the whole game, you wouldn’t have any armor left. So it would more or less function like a damage slider. The more damage you take over the course of that life, the further the slider, well, slides to the damaged side, increasing the battle-damage detail progressively. Sure, it’s not as cool as an accurate bullet hole where someone shot you, but it satisfies anyone who wants battle damage.
And on the topic of dismemberment, since I see someone brought it up, as much as Halo leans close to the realistic side of things, that might be going way too far into the gratuitous gore category. It isn’t needed, and it’s probably too much. But, there is always the chance that it’d work out. I mean, we see dismemberment in Halo: Reach. You see a Drone explode when you shoot it in the head. It’s insect body parts flying everywhere. There isn’t massive amounts of gore, just dry body parts. Halo: Legends - Prototype had quite a lot of gore, and honestly, I thought that looked neat to some degree, so maybe in that sense it could work.
i hope people know that the models shown were actually plastic models not digtitally and if it was digitally they have about 10 months to fix what people dont like. but ive hear this idea for a while and finally saw it on the forums and i think its a great idea, like sliding should scrape a bit of paint from your legs and ground pounding a bit of your hand piece, but even having it optional to spawn with would be great, obviously it would only go to some extent tho.

I hope your bit about plastic was a joke. Those were in-game models. The reason they were so shiny was because they were on a sterile white canvas, and real-time lighting and reflections had been applied to them.
I’d like to see battle damage as you rank up. Level 1 have shiny new stuff, let’s say level 50’s get slightly scrapped armor like halo 2 and 3, while high levels get really battle torn armor like Reach.
