Ok, so I am not a great player, as it is I am pretty average. Yes I did, out of peer pressure mostly, finished halo: CE, 2 and 3 on legendary but it was not all that smooth lemme tell ya.
Then reach came along, I never bought it until halo 4 was announced (what can I tell you, me and heroic sacrifice don’t mix) but I had to play it before halo 4, so I did. And while I was putzing around I found duck hunt from Pete the Duck and you know what it was not only fun but would you not know it my aim actually improved round after round and in the main game too.
Of course this was an impromptu forge world mode and whatnot BUT…it was useful. I missed it in halo 4.
It then passed my mind…completely until the other day I was playing killer instinct (the Xbox one game of course) and started doing the Dojo mode and I realized, those are not just challenges, those are training sessions to not just teach you the game but competitive, system heavy fighting games in general (the teaching tools are MANY and comprehensive…including frame by frame replays, display hit boxes, display keystrokes and AI demos). Which to a point is what Duck Hunt was doing, teaching me to aim properly and deduce where ab object would be in a point in time given its trajectory and speed.
anyways I could not stop but think…why not Halo? I think that a similar feature would GREATLY benefit the game and even the competitive online aspect since there would be a way to TEACH people how to play and understand the game without them risking to get automatically crushed by incredibly more advanced players (ok not as bad at least but you know, in the controlled environment of the training mode).
so yes, why not halo 5? What do you guys think?
(by the way I never finished the 32nd lesson of the Dojo mode in KI…my left thumb started bleeding before I could finish the 4th combo)
To be honest, a lot of what you need to learn about Halo, you can learn from the Campaign, the Campaign kind of is the training mode, it lets you master aiming at moving targets. From there most of the important things to learn are best learned in matchmaking games themselves. If you focus on getting better each game, you get better.

no one is teaching you in matchmaking games tho. That is the main difference.

If the Halo AI were competent than might make an okay training mode, currently it doesn’t.

You don’t need someone to teach you. You can teach yourself or have a experienced friend to help you out.
Personally, I’ve taught myself and had friends help me along the way.

the training mode AI would have leeway to be more competent than the campaign AI (within the confines of the exercise)

All of Halo’s AI need to get better programing. I’d love a training mode, but campaign AI shouldn’t be excluded from an upgrade.

says you.
I still think a training mode with the amount of care I saw in the KI training mode would benefit the game.

sure, why not?
point is, the training AI needs to be more punishing than campaign’s otherwise it would not work for the purpose of the exercise
Yeah, we really should get some bots in Halo 5. I’ve said it a thousand times.
> Yeah, we really should get some bots in Halo 5. I’ve said it a thousand times.
bots alone are only half of it

Not really. OP is talking about using AI to improve his skillz. With competent custom games bots, he wouldn’t have to touch the Campaign if he didn’t want to. Besides, Legendary is, of course, incredibly unfair. So, it’s not exactly the best place for someone new to get better. He might get really easily discouraged. And finally, Campaign AI is NOT the same, nor should it be the same as, bot AI.

right but like playing Killer instinct on super hardcore difficulty is hard and often unfair it also is not as informative and proficient at teaching you things as the Dojo Mode
so yeah…bots would only half do it

Killer Instinct is a fighting game. A VERY different animal compared to an FPS. Further, Campaign AI serves a different purpose than bot AI. One is to merely be entertaining to kill. The other serves to act in place of real players as best as it can.

different but no less intricate (if anything maybe more so), just fighting bots/AI opponents will not teach you the mechanics, not as extensively as a well crafted training mode

One can easily argue that the Campaign AI should be just as competent as bot AI. At least competent enough not to stand in the middle of an open field firing a scattershot, or having to use teleportation to make up for its poor capabilities.

Oh, you’re talking about…
My bad. In that case, it definitely wouldn’t be a bad idea. I guess the problem I see with it is that Halo isn’t really that hard of a game to learn. Easy to learn, hard to master. I also don’t know if it would really be worth the time to put in a really good one as compared to bots.

I thought the same about killer instinct, I tried Dojo mode for funzies. If you are AT ALL a fan of fighting games try it and you will see what I mean

Don’t get me wrong a training mode is a perfectly fine idea, so long as it doesn’t count as an actual match and however many kills you get in it don’t add on to your K/D just so boosters don’t take advantage of it. Also I think you should not earn any experience points for playing it, so again boosters don’t take advantage of it.
It’s called playing customs against people. It’s about a billion times more useful than playing AI dummies.
