I just watched the trailer myself. I’ve seen some people already say the different Master Chief voice and Cortana model seemed weird, but I expected there to be some changes when making a TV show. Plus, with the Canon Fodder update that explained the whole Silver Universe thing I kind of was ready for some differences. I’m curious to see how the mystery human lady interacting/working for the Covenant plays out.
Overall I think it looks cool. What do you all think?
I felt like generally some of it looked good, but I’m still not at all onboard with or interested in a new timeline. I think that alone will be the main failing point of this show (and I do expect it will eventually fail.)
I was also bothered/confused by the AK at the beginning… and Chief’s voice certainly is nothing like Steve Downes so that’ll be weird… but I actually thought Cortana looked pretty cool.
I think in general, making a Halo game and focusing it on Spartans just isn’t the move. The fact of the matter is that particularly Chief’s armor really actually only looks good in games, because it was designed to match the art style. In all live action content I’ve seen, the armor has looked a bit fake and out of place, and this is no exception. I think that focusing on ODSTs or marines would have been a much better move, like Neil Blomkamp did with the landfall series (now that’s content I’d pay for more of.)
It looks like hot garbage and it turns out it is hot garbage since they were too lazy to write something that fit in the current lore. Alternate timelines isn’t much of an excuse
It’s laughable. Total garbage that looks about as low budget as you can get. Hopefully master chief’s shields glow like a Christmas tree when he gets damaged and the enemy can see his outline from a mile a way
I personally hate what they’re doing with the show. You’d think if they are trying to expand the audience while retaining the fans who’re already there, they’d stick to something that is canon or at least close to the original plot. The move just doesn’t make sense to me.
It also looks like a fan film, both in visuals and acting. The Spartans look like they had a cosplayer make them a suit of 3D printed plastic. I get that it’s a TV series and that CG models are expensive, but they have the backing of Daddy Microsoft and Paramount Pictures, give us something that looks like it will stop a bullet at least. An AK, in combat, in 2552??? That’s like if we were using matchlock guns from the 1500s in a battle today. 7.62x39 or 5.45x39 is not going through titanium, which is the alloy used as armor for Humanity.
Obviously it’s not the same story, but a human in the Covenant? How are they going to explain that? Before the trailer, I thought the only way that would work is if only the Prophets knew of her, and to use her to access Forerunner technology, but it turns out she’s some kind of deacon like the Maw in the MCU. I guess they’re doing away with the part of the story where the Covenant is killing humanity because the Prophets know the truth and don’t want to lose their power.
Having Halsey and Cortana with different accents is weird. I get Cortana is a smart AI and can choose her own voice, but I feel like it will confuse new people, because Cortana is basically a digital clone of Halsey. I hate that they race swapped established characters, but it’s a different “timeline” so I can look past it.
Overall, my biggest fear is that they’re going to use this to create a “multiverse”, which I just find gimmicky at this point. They’ve already hinted at time travel with the ending of Infinite, which I don’t like the idea of it being in Halo. I’d rather things be set in stone and have consequences. It all just seems lazy to me in terms of storytelling, but that’s just my opinion.
I mean this isn’t the first instance of this by any means. Civilians used MP40s and M9s in the invasion of Mombasa, and there are Desert Eagles in Shadows of Reach.
