I think it would be okay to have armor cores, armor effects, AIs, charms and other odd things on the store and paid Battle Pass, while everything else and the occasional armor core/armor effect/pose/AI/charm/armor piece/etc. is on the free Battle Pass and special events.
However, equipment and visor colors should be unlocked from the beginning.
Also, Halo 3 had some armor that was odd and from other games.
I also feel this way about f2p games and gacha. I would spend a lot more than usual if I got a better bang for my buck. That’s why the $89.99 for 11500 credits is the best selling value and why people like Game Pass. I would care less about the forced bundles if they were lowered like
$20 = $15
$15 = $10
$10 = $7
$7 = $5
$2 for 2XP and 2 swaps = $1
Yeah, I would definitely buy a lot more, and it would be a chunk more affordable for everyone else to buy more. When it comes to f2p, they market stuff at an inflated value that only the 1% can afford, but if it was marketed to the 25%, they would likely sell a lot more. It’s a digital product with no supply and demand. There’s no real reason the prices are what they are.
Yeah idk it just seems like bad business practice to me. They’d be drowning in money if they’d just slash their prices a little. They’re relying on a small percentage to spend a lot instead of a large percentage to spend a little… and taxes have thought us that the latter is more profitable lol.
Armor sets should only be $3.00.
That would get about 20 armor sets for $60, which seems about right.
2x experience boosts at $1 is okay as long as they do not reduce the amount of experience gained.
Challenge swaps, likewise, but 1-3 free swaps should be given every day.
Thing is, just earlier yesterday, I saw that blue pistol skin and attachment and thought “that’s cool, I would maybe buy that, but not at that price”. I say that about multiple things in the game. I would have bought the front bumper for the warthog for $3 if it sold by itself instead of in the blue coating bundle with no wasp coating. They’re just missing out on free money by making digital items less appealing
$3 for an armor SET? Do you mean preset kits like the HCS offers, or a full bundle of helmet, attachment, shoulders, gloves, knees, etc etc, for the crazy low price of $3? I was thinking that the Anubis helmet and headphones attachment could be in a $5 or $7 bundle just by itself, but a whole SET for $3? That’s poor economics
Also 3 swaps free per DAY? Come on. They could have every level of the Battle Pass have either a swap or an XP booster, but you’re really asking for handfuls of free gold here
See gaming used to foster community above all else, because it wasn’t a mainstream thing decades ago. Game systems, mechanics, designs, were made to bring together people to compete and hang out as friends. Because most developers were gamers themselves.
Now everything is designed with a money-first-mentality. Does your design create a fracture in the fanbase? Doesn’t matter if it makes more money this way. Will this mechanic be fun? Meh, probably not but it’ll get people to spend those greenbacks. If I had to bet, I would guess the majority of devs nowadays don’t even actively game. It’s so sad seeing all of the great franchises of my youth ruined by bad INTENTIONAL decisions.
Quake, Unreal Tournament, Tribes, Battlefield, Halo, etc. It’s funny the one game that decided to keep it’s gameplay traditional has stayed top dog since the beginning. Counter-Strike.
Microsoft has had a collar on Halo since the beginning. Every Halo was rushed to incompletion at release, with cut content and untested unbalanced weapons. Microtransactionsoft is still the biggest issue. You can tell in interviews that the devs at 343 have handcuffs on.
I fully support the idea of 15 to 20 armor sets and some attachments for the Mark VII core being unlockable in the $60 campaign, but I don’t think selling full sets at $3 in the shop would be a smart investment.
I turned off messaging from non-friends and set all chats to auto-mute the instant I made my account. It’s not really unique to Halo. People in general can be pretty toxic.
No idea what kind of perspective I’m supposed to be imagining there, but my point is that why would anyone get the battle pass if they can buy a 15 piece armor set for $3? It also greatly devalues the armors people put effort into earning by making everything feel too cheap, like store brand cheap. If you told me they should sell helmets for $4 and attachments for $3, or both in a $6 bundle, I could see that. That sounds like your average modern game prices. You should be able to buy stuff in the bundles individually or save money by buying the full bundle. Doesn’t mean the full bundle should be valued at $0.20 per item
You know, it wasn’t the average before, and people complained about microtransactions because they knew it would end up like this…
It’s not really something that should be accepted either, because again, it’s likely going to get worse if people do that.
I’ll probably stop playing new video games if or when that happens.
Anyway, I’m not sure how to fix all of what you mentioned, but I’d say…
To not devalue effort, armor cores and armor sets shouldn’t be available through the store, only through the Battle Pass and special events, and the Battle Pass should have more armor pieces in place of the Challenge Swaps.
The store should only be for armor effects, experience boosts, AIs and charms.
Colors should all be unlocked at a certain point in the Battle Pass (including the free Battle Pass).
Again, a few Challenge Swaps should be given every day.
The best thing is $20 isn’t all that much. I spent that on my lunch today. Maybe if these teenagers went out and worked instead of dosing on the internet they could find a better compass!
