I posted this a while back and it got no love…or people didn’t see it at all.
So, I’m going to re-pitch the idea to see if I can get some feedback on it.
I think a “Tournament” mode would be a great addition to Halo 5 and the franchise entirely. It would boost the competitive scene at home and could potentially be something that changes the idea of Halo MM entirely.
A nice way to test if this mode out would to have yet another Beta (which is unlikely) in which playlists such as “Lone Wolves”, “Team Slayer”, and “Team Objective” are featured.
Like any tournament mode brackets would be involved, as well as quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals. The rewards at the end of these would have to be pretty spectacular. Perhaps exclusive armor permutations or a substantial amount of Skill points ranking someone up a few times.
This mode could also boost the support of clan like features being used in the game. Establishing greater meaning than just a small phrase or word inside brackets “”
Penalties for quitting the tournament would be extremely severe. Such things may warrant a ban from the tournament mode, a de-ranking of 5 or so ranks, and perhaps a nameplate that you are branded with for a short time labeled “Deserter” or “Quitter”.
A mode like this, imo, has quite a lot of potential. Any ideas or additions you would like to add that would enhance the overall experience of this mode?
I was about to say they have tournaments already but you’re talking for those who aren’t “Pro MLG Players” that get invited to places that are hosted by IGN and other companies that do these things. De-rank of about 5 ranks? Seems a little too harsh. Maybe a 2 rank de-rank? And no, humiliation should not be present if you quit. Like what if you had something to do and you had to leave the tournament? Do you think “Quitter” or “Deserter” is appropriate? And now that drags the de-ranking too, something came up you had to quit, doesn’t warrant a de-rank. Rank should go up or down only if you win or lose the tournament.
Those are my thoughts.

I can see your point if something comes up, however in a mode such as this someone would have to schedule and plan ahead of time to set aside a space in which they could participate through the whole thing. If there isn’t a penalty for quitting than I can see tournament mode being pretty unstable from the start.
