Torque, another collection of metal corridors

Is it just me or does Torque look like it’s going the same way as every other map in Halo 5? I mean we ask for an original map and we get bland metal hallways again? Every single map in Halo 5 is super uninspiring and so bland and now we get another one? I want deserts, snowy outposts, Covi themed maps not more boring generic Scifi buildings.

I want something with Sangheli architecture. I want to play on sanghelios.

I think Riptide has a decent amount of unique visual aspects, in particular the turquoise colours and the well-lit sand/ moody water locations. But I agree that we need some more natural maps or at least some more Forerunner/ Covenant buildings. I’m trying to think of a single Arena map that has a tree in it, something -gasp- asymmetrical, but I just can’t think of any.

Balance is all nice and well but it gets boring very quickly. I’d love to see different stuff from the free map updates, not old ideas packaged in new looks.

I’ll have to wait till I actually see it to decide for myself.
Although when I think about some of the Halo 3 maps, Last Resort (a remake I know), Guardian, Narrows, The Pit. They were all different, and they all FELT different. Each map had some many unique features and was so different from the next map. Now the only thing that makes one map unique from the next are the small little jumps that you use to traverse the map. SO many little features of these new maps are recoloured and recycled. If you can’t make maps that are legitimately fun to play on, at least give us our old maps that we love and enjoy.

Plaza has a tree/bush type thing in it.

You’re right, Plaza does have some flowers and stuff. But not the kind of asymmetry I was looking for. Oh well.

Agreed, Halo 3 had the best maps of any game. 5 isn’t even close.

Over 5 mil in micro transactions and we get half a map a month… And lacking in vital game modes to aid this new forge. 343i love your fans because without us you have no job. (btw 343 using fan made maps in the rotation doesn’t count as a new map)

All the maps look like that, and I hate it. The closest thing we have to visual variety (aside from the skyboxes, which we don’t see 90% of the time thanks to the instrusive metal cylinders and hallways) is Overgrowth (which is literally overgrown metal) Regret (because it is the only Covenant themed map which isn’t a remake) and Riptide (which is metal with some sand and water splashed at both ends).

Now let’s take a look to the past. Halo 3 launched with:
-Forests/Jungles (Vallhala and Guardian)
-Green maps with Flood infestations (Isolation)
-Brown maps with human structures (High Ground)
-Dune deserts with sandstone structures (Sandtrap)
-Snow (that awful map with the underground hallways and the shotgun)
-Forerunner structures (Narrows, Epitath and Construct)

And that’s just at launch.

In Halo 5, all we really have is small maps with metal structures, random metal cylinders poking out of the ground and metal walls that block the view to a sometimes surprisingly beautiful skybox.

And more than that… all the maps play the same! They don’t just look the same! There is hardly any variety in the gameplay of similarly small, corridory maps with low-to-medium verticality. You wonder why not a single Halo 5 map sticks out, why none of them is ever going to be that iconic map that we’ll want remade ten years from now? Well, it’s because they’re all the -Yoinking!- same! No matter how good they are, none of them stand out because they’ve been stripped of their identity and placed alongside a dozen just like them.

What we need is Warzone maps refitted for BTB through dev Forging. What we need is new, dev-made BTB maps that are small enough to serve as large 4v4 maps. We need to inject vehicles into Arena. We need variety! In both visuals and play.

When they firsr showed an image of Torque last month, parading it as their first all-new map, I understood 343i have no idea that this problem exists. Yes, this is an Arena game- but it’s a modern one, and it’s also a Halo game. Big, open playspaces and vehicles won’t ruin that- and leaving all the more complicated stuff to community Forgers is NOT the answer.

Almost all the maps are complete booty juice and they will continue to spit them out like diarrhea.

Seriously though, all the arena maps besides riptide are bland and colorless, all of them are indoors and have no outdoor beautiful environments, what is wrong with 343

I miss maps like Valhalla, Zanzibar, guardians, high grounds, all those outdoor maps. Every single map in halo 5 is indoors and gray/bland

Its better then a reimagined or redesigned map to me

I think it has to do with them trying to maximize the potential for usage of the new Spartan Abilities; especially clamber.
When you design a multiplayer space, you need to consider the tools available to the player, and craft your map around those abilities, to some degree… naturally, if you can clamber up on ledges, you make a map with a lot of ledges…ad when you try to imagine a believable play space with a lot of ledges and elevated doors/windows to clamber up into, you very well might naturally gravitate towards an urban/space station type environment.
Having said all that:
Yes-I would love to see them start to branch out and figure out some other applications.
One of the things that has always kept Halo fresh and interesting has been the variety of environments offered up to play in…and I must agree with the OP here: 343 seem to be painting themselves into a corner with MP level design…
(PS- Sanghelios maps would be a NO BRAINER, as it would be in keeping with the campaign.)

Now that would be cool. With sandstone structures and giant statues like the Campaign, and in a real desert with real sand. No metal!

Hardly. From the looks of it, it’ll play the same as the Rig/Empire/Fathom and the rest of them. Remix or not, this map is still more of the same in an already bland and inversatile set of maps

I want a Sanghelios inspired map with a lot of walls and floors that can be busted through.

I would be completely fine with 343 taking the room from the campaign mission Swords of Sanghelios with the Elite statues where you fight two hunters and using that as a template for a new map

Symmetrical maps >> asymmetrical maps. However I would like to see some variety. I’m not upset at the visuals if it plays well, but some variety never killed anyone.

I believe Orion had a tree next to sniper area, but I honestly can’t remember lol.

But yea, the screenshot looked like some part of the Warzone bases.

Need Valhalla
